If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.
Bang on Jan.
Not for those who are short on stock.enough toilet paper for ages, which is comforting.
Jack, I wonder as well. Extended power outages cause that. Knowing that you are alone with your lover in the dark, that you're a little chilly and that it's only a matter of time before power is restored, is a lot different than a pandemic. There is likely to be a baby boom in 9 months
I wonder if the fear factor might have the opposite affect. There are many things required for conception beyond the obvious. A discontented mental state might play into it.
Remember, the female body is an absolute marvel of nature and since us men 'can't even take out the garbage properly', how would we even guess?
Personally though, I like the idea of the beer, TV and snuggle time but there's no sports on. Does that mean we have to watch - gasp - Say yes to the dress or the Bachelor? If so, I'm going to find someone with the virus.
Just sayin'
There is likely to be a baby boom in 9 months...all that beer, tv and nothing else to do ex pro-create.
I would expect -in this forum at least- a prediction for a diy loudspeaker build boom.
But I don’t see that. I am disappointed.
George

Survival of the fittest, you see. I doubt there is a better indicator of social darwinism than the big boss who has the tallest mountain of toilet paper behind their near future throne. Just imagine Fury Road with toilet paper rolling down the slope instead of water. BTW, I'll trade a 16 pack for your home. Think about it.
I do vuohi,
I admit to being confused by the public toilet paper reaction to date, just as I was when so many persons donated blood after the 9/11 incident. When the public wants to do good, or even just look after themselves, there isn't always a recognized direction to follow. Here we have many other examples.

halas, it is stopping very fast... you will see fires next years because the cold beers yet, still Ebola cases or Covid mutation come back perhaps.
Btw, I can imagine there will be some blood stock problems for a time with the outbreak.
Seing the virus map one can see it's a rich countries crisis... how will we protect the poorest as some african countries or central asia ? In CE we know we have two add two zero to be close these day to the real numbers of infected people... It's clear the poorest countries will not have an acurate counting either... Sould we/they stop planes and boats.
Read there was a major farming crisis in a part of Egypt and around due to crickett invasion. They will suffer far most than the modern countries... while we can have hope as Ebola was managed very fast. Also european countries reacted faster than China as well, cause they informed when they saw it was huger than they thought.
Now it's my understanding scientists from all the world are exchanging in real time the sequencing of the virus and mutations... Scientists are more reactive than gvts... which have hard time to collaborate fast... nations are a too basic concept in front of a pandemy...
I'm afraid to see around me people still travelling one week ago because they pay their travel and insurances do not want to give the monney back and also individualy monney spent is bigger than wisdom... or worse for professional reason as if the world couldn't wait one week or two... Sad !

I think my wife is starting to get broody, which is dangerous after two sections. Plus I have way too many kids already... I think I need to finish my phono projects and play some vinyl...I would expect -in this forum at least- a prediction for a diy loudspeaker build boom.

As I have never really understood humanity this is not particularly wierding me out 🙂 .

From what I've heard the main reason there are very few confirmed cases in Africa is because they are not testing due to a lack of functioning health services and money.
wait a little and you will see two wives from diyers fighting for the last speaker driver box on shelves...
I must admit that I do appreciate the immediate public reaction (should I say viral or would that be insensitive?) of admiration of the anus, as it is one of the most important orifices of human anatomy after all. It rarely gets the attention it deserves.

There are if you look for breakingnews, but it's less fast due basic turists & business travelers prefer lounge bar than central Africa... The main propagation factor seem to be airports, braced places : faster than frontiers. There is no doubt Africa, India and so on will be touched as high than us, but you can not conclude they are less touched because there are no kits... the same in CE or USA...
Virus always followed the commercial way, was it silk route or antics... same today, virus are following the monney (human beings)
I know for a fact that there were daily flights between China and Zimbabwe for example as my wife is Zimbabwean.
There are hundreds of thousands of Chinese workers all over Africa since they are building most of the African infrastructure like roads and railways, without employing many local workers and everything (including sand!) imported from the Chinese mainland.

There are some factors that work in some of Africa's favor with this virus. One, the climates are humid (sub-Sarahan, anyway, and excepting the arid parts). Two, the average age of the population is very low.
They stopped the flights from China ? what are the basic traveller here ? Chineese worker, manager, state employee ? Sure the business is not profiting to local people as much it should be... lot of chineese farming also as far I'm understanding.
Hope all will be ok for wife's family if living there.
Duno if epidemiologists have sketched how long it will last all other the world ? 5 or 6 months following chineese model, a little less in western countries, more elswhere ?

This particular virus doesn't seem to do well in higher temperature climates. Mbe Sean can opine, perhaps all virii break down under temps >80F.
We've heard from a supplier in Spain that they have to close down for a few weeks. We are running production but staff involved in marketing, research and support will work from home.
Here stateside, and surprisingly as of March 13, 2013, no cases in Florida which is populated by old codgers, Disney employees, and Republican hedge-fund tax dodgers. Neither does W. Virginia have any cases, but this is one of the poorest states in the Union, with an economy heavily dependent upon coal.

Florida Department of Health increased the number of confirmed cases to 51 this evening, with 4 deaths so far. Did I misunderstand what you were trying to say?

I still watch the Miami TV news occasionally since I lived in that area for 62 years. As of yesterday there were 3 or 4 deaths in Florida depending on which station I watched. The two stations together listed 5 different counties where these deaths occurred. From this data, I can conclude that there were 3, 4 or 5 deaths in Florida, and an unknown number of confirmed cases, between 40 and 50 since some may have been counted twice......Remember, this is the state that can't count votes!

I know that at least two people in this small county, and one in the county to the north have been tested. The results take up to 5 days to return from Atlanta. We are in the tiny sliver of the state between Ohio and Pennsylvania with Interstate 70 running through it. It's here......we just aren't looking in the right places, or are even capable of looking correctly.

The hospitals aren't exactly top notch either. I remember seeing a fly, and a lady bug in the OR as I was being cut open! I have been getting regular annual blood tests for 30+ years. The results have always been pretty consistent. Since moving here they have been more like random numbers. Yes, I retired and my life has changed a lot....is that the case, or does the local lab suck?
I wouldn't expect coal and it's mining to be much of a factor. Many mines and power plants are being closed and converted to gas.....fracking is the new mining.
However, both groups tend to congregate at the local watering hole after shift. Those and the school systems are still the most likely methods of virus propagation.
I don't get the TP feeding frenzy. Walmart, Sams and every store from here to Pittsburgh had NONE. I lived through many TV generated "hurricane panics" in Florida, including one where we had no power for 22 days. Never fought over TP, but gasoline and drinkable water were highly prized commodities.

My bad, was going off the Johns Hopkins map!
Most of the NJ hedge fund guys have moved to Florida by now.
