E-MU 0404 and Linux (also issues with REW at 96 kHz)

The same hardware setup running on the Ubuntu Studio machine delivered the surprise of the day.
The harmonics vanished even at 0dBFS level. This is hardly believable, I guess it relates someway to the real-time kernel.😕
Any explanations are welcome...

Real-time kernel has no effect on USB timing, nor does it change data.

Honestly, my 2 cents you have a digital loopback somewhere in your measurement, this looks like 24bit digital sine dithered somewhere between 16 to 24 bits. But maybe you got lucky and the distortions somehow cancelled out. But together with that 0.0dBFS - very unlikely.

My 0404 /0202 looks like yours post 40 so I guess that's the correct setup.
My problem right now is I only can not get 192-92-48kHz wineasio/alsa to work only 44.1kHz on both of my computers
