The same meaning that innocent would have in any other context.
I think Google does a pretty good job here:
Since this crowd is a bit pedantic, I don't differentiate between species (person, animal, etc)

Hehe, just checking 😉 I'm a bit intrigued what the "etc" might be 😕 and I thought people were animals too 🙂

I don't consume honey either.... which is made by bees which are technically insects
Do vegans think less of meat eaters? .....example; say if your out and about and see someone devouring a rack of ribs, do you shake your head and say to yourself ‘that poor feller’ ?
Or maybe that poor pig?
Not trolling, serious question.....it just crossed my mind reading this.

I thought you might have meant insects, but they are animals too (call me pedantic if you like) I was hoping you might have meant our innocent plant relatives but......oh well....

Like most things .. it depends. I have not been vegan my entire life. I was born and raised in the US and ate the SAD (Standard American Diet) until the age of 28.
I did not have vegan or vegetarian friends ever and didn't know much about what it even is. I used to eat meat atleast once a day.
One random morning (after having my standard breakfast that included tuna, a hard-boiled egg, some cottage cheese with bread and some vegetables) I saw a lecture about veganism and it literally changed my life.
That week I went back to my regular Friday dinner where my mom prepared some beef brisket, chicken wings and liver (just for me.. I ate the most)... my family did not take the "news" easily. It's almost weird how people react when I mention I am vegan.
Anyhow... why is this related? Because I was there too, so I don't automatically hate or think less of meat eaters.
I do have an issue with people that are aware of the cruelty and are oblivious to it or justify it for whatever reasoning.
It's not like I'd hate on them.. but they will likely get phased out of my life.
Are they lesser humans from a moral perspective...? Maybe

You may have been brainwashed by some vegetarian / vegan propaganda. "all those diseases" are predominantly linked to what we inherited from parents and grandparents. Changing diet won't change the DNA code in us in our lifetime.I think you will find that lecture and the research discussed there informative. Animal protein and fat consumption are directly linked with the root causes of all those diseases. The human body is an amazing machine and handles abuse quite well. Modern medicine also helps by keeping you alive in spite of these diseases. As I get old, I want to thrive, not just be alive...
Anyhow, this is a personal choice and each is entitled to their own. Feel free to ignore the data.
FWIW, this is not the reason why I went vegan... I actually do care that millions of innocent animals are killed

Cool thanks for that explanation......the most I’ve ever been educated in the vegan lifestyle is from reading this thread, had no idea how in depth it was.....I just thought it was a extreme vegetarian (vegetarian I am familiar with).
just not into the whole ‘we’re better than you’ and those who act all high and mighty (in general....not pointing fingers at anyone here)
My motto is to each his own.....as long as it’s not thrown up in my face as condemnation.
Example; when the honey thing was first mentioned I was a bit shocked and looked into it. There were a couple good reasons mentioned that if I were a bee I would find upsetting......but then this one young girl (could tell by her pic) said something about the beekeepers ‘raping’ the queen by way of artificial insemination and had a whole rant going on about everyone’s problems.
Now I gotta tell the truth.....That seems a bit out there?
Is this common place thinking amongst vegans? Or is that just showboating?
I try to eat as healthy as possible as everyone should, but my view is one can certainly do that without all the drama and extremism?
Bob

I could say the same about you.. maybe you have been brainwashed that what you are eating is actually good for you.
Keep in mind, the meat, dairy and pharma industries are the richest in the world. They have good reason to keep it that way.
Healthy or dead people are not profitable.. only sick ones that need constant medicine and care.
There have been plenty of fiasco's where governments have put the interest of lobbyists before peoples health, for example, not banning beef in UK during the spread of mad cow disease (even though it was banned everywhere else in the world and there was proof that consuming those cows increased the chances of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD)).
I had actually studied biology and genetics as supplemental courses to my computer science B.Sc so know a thing or two about this topic. DNA is just a very long encoding of different amino acids. The output of that is directly influenced by what we shove in our mouths 3 times a day. Some unlucky individuals will get those diseases no matter what they eat.
Are you familiar with the China Study? That research was conducted by the T. Colin Campbell, Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry at Cornell University. His research (over many years and tens of thousands of people) proved direct link between Casein (dairy protein) to cancer. Was he also brainwashed?

Militant vegans! That’s kindly a oxymoron! 🙂

I am not strict about honey. I don't buy it purposefully. If I'm in a restaurant and the only non-dairy salad dressing has honey, I'll eat it.
I haven't studied the honey topic in depth, so can't comment about the rape or whatever. What I do know is that bee's wont go too far from the queen, so her wings are chopped off so that they all stay put.
I rarely consume it anyway so it was easier for me to just give it up, then try and dig into the details of it.
The real issue with the bee's is actually environmental.. there is alot of information about this
Then why would you make such BS statement like "plant-based (or vegan, call it whatever you like) is the only diet to avoid all the leading causes of death (heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, etc)."?I had actually studied biology and genetics as supplemental courses to my computer science B.Sc so know a thing or two about this topic.
Just cancer but not "all the leading causes of death (heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, etc)."? I wonder from whom you've got "all" from...Are you familiar with the China Study? I feel like I'm repeating myself, but have you actually looked into scientific research on this topic?
If you did, you wouldn't need me to explain why consuming meat, dairy and eggs leads to those illnesses, while consuming a 100% 😉 plant based diet can mitigate that risk, and even reverse the effects of said diseases.

So does this carry over into all aspects of life..... Example; no spay or neutering of pets.....or is having pets ok?
I guess what I really mean is it just about eating as healthy as possible or is it really more about being ‘humane’?
Bob, visit The Vegan Society website, they make the rules
I did go to a couple websites.....nothing like the horses mouth.

These are all complicated topics... and it depends from person to person.
To me, its definitely about being `humane`.
I have a dog and 2 cats. I found all 3 of them on the street (this was while living abroad). The dog was tied to a pole and beaten. One cat was dying and was eating out of a trash can.
They are all neutered, its for their own benefit. I would never "buy" a pet... hundreds of thousands of dogs are put to sleep every year.
I do have a conflict every time I need to buy fish or chicken for my cat... why is her life more important than those ground chickens?
I pay more for products from companies that have fair pay to employees and give back to the environment. Luckily my salary allows that.
I try to avoid buying things that involve human exploitation in order to farm or produce.

Being humane is a pretty good practice more people should employ.
I wouldn’t feel bad about the chickens or fish.....their gonna get ground up anyhow, might as well make good use of it.
I would think it less humane to turn a pet into a vegan? Are there people that do that?
Yes, I know a woman who has vegan cats, this is where to my mind things go off the rails, mental health issues can be revealed in such behaviourI would think it less humane to turn a pet into a vegan? Are there people that do that?
