New Markaudio Drivers

does 7MS share the edge wound voice coil feature with Pluvia 7 HD ?

The first three would be interesting, but as I mentioned earlier, from what I’ve seen of preliminary specs, the FR curve of the PHD - I think the “Pluvia Seven PHD Rectangular” seen here
MARKAUDIO GROUP INDEX | 音楽の再生のリアリティーの追求 would be an acquired taste.

As a general warning, the graph on that page is incorrect. The Japanese distributor appears to have accidentally attached the wrong name to that graph (which is not for that drive unit) on his blog.

Scott, Stefan, are there spec sheets for these new drivers - or any others - ready for official prime time release? I’ve seen something for the PHD that differs from the FR curve posted by sk971 above, and that in the link in my own prior post. Too many cooks?

Freddi - that’s probably one of the data points that would be nice to see on a table of comparative specs for all models in each weight range.
Keep in mind that the type and shape of conducting material in the voice coil is only one of many constituent parts/materials that can tailor the net sound of the drivers - hell, even the amount and stiffness of adhesive attaching the dust cap to the main cone can matter.
I think the Seven PHD will sound very much like its intended market wants, and not only due the cone being paper rather than metal alloy.

I am comparing pairs 11ms and 10.3m now on small primitive plywood panels without boxes (still looking for plans). All drivers were warmed up. 10.3 about 150hrs, 11ms about 20hrs.
I think these "a bit thin and dry" for reason of lower distortions of new driver.
To be fair 11ms have much more advantages. Better resolution, more spacious soundstage, better separation of sounds, bigger images size, it rocks with excellent dynamic. And more "open" (in your face) sound i don't know how good or bad it is depends on your system and preferences.

7.3, 7HD, 7ms; now THAT would be a fun audio shoot out! Oh wait don't leave out the 7PHD. Audio Nirvosa X 7's, OCD Golden Ears applications being taken now :)

OK, how can I get my hands on a pair of 7PHD??? I might still have some Navy buddies living in Japan; is that the ONLY place they are available? I love my 7P's (modified by cone doping) but, of course, they are not perfect. I keep saying and hoping I'd love to see a second generation Alpair 7P or maybe a totally new driver; an Alpair "8P" or something along those lines. I tend to prefer paper cones over metal or other materials as a general rule.

AFAIK the 7P-HD has an overall frequency / amplitude response akin to the CHP70.2 and completely different to the Alpair 7P; it was designed for the Asian market, and largely voiced by the Japanese distributor and a number of his key buyers to suit their specific requirements. These may not suit what other people want though.

Since you have it on an open baffle, any chance I can get you to drive it with a low frequency sine wave and let me know if it is buzzing or not?

Just a couple of photos to add some meat to the bone of some of the discussion above.

These just arrived today. The first sample drivers for the new Pluvia 7 HD, Pluvia 7 PHD, Alpair 5.3 and the CHN50. I'm looking forward to all of them but am actually most excited about the CHN50. It should be really cheap and as it is so small could easily be used in line array projects. We don't see too many of those as lots of drivers quickly gets expensive. I should be able to keep the costs of these low though. I'd expect the first deliveries in about 2 months all being well. We probably won't stock the PHD for reasons discussed above unless folk really insist.
