New FIFO buffer for RPI/SBCs

C'mon aren't you a bit overdramatizing :p

Who knows? ;)

Tz been Allo who announced that issues will happen.

My post was just intended to "highlight" an IMO very sensitive topic here, brought up by somebody else - once more.

Allo never came up with a clarification or warning a couple of weeks back.
We have been discussing the heat issue not long ago.

Now I hear that over at CA also a heat issue on a different product was reported. Which can of course be a complete different subject.

And I also still have the Darko video with that burning battery supply
in mind.

Yep. Things are happening. And things can happen.

And Allo should talk about it openly! While doing so they should be very careful how to phrase the messages!

I'm still a big Allo fan. Just to mention it.

Damn! I just googled that Darko video that you mentioned  ...

Me wrong :( - you right :) those things must not pass the Q.C. of serious company!

Hi Soundcheck

What I am saying is that we have over 350 Katanas at this point on the field , one unit has reported a heating issue due to some short. Any electronics that you buy can have an issue , like shorting , then it will become hot but probably not burn the house. .Marudo reported a bit higher temp since the beginning , in our test data it shows heating is not an issue.
.

Just clarify the situation properly!

And simply don't tell the world that "issues will happen", especially in the context of discussed heat issues!

If heat or currents go under the roof there are ways to shutdown the circuit!
You might take this as a hint to consider a new featureset on your next upgrade.

In the documents - if not done yet - describe very clearly that this rather sandwiched CLASS-A HAT needs proper ventilation!

We're not talking about "any" electronics btw. We're talking about your Class-A HAT solution.

Please do not change my words or translate my message. I am just observing that all electronics can have shorts , Katana is not a Russian roulette and all units in the field , including yours , are working correctly without burning houses .

I'm not changing your words. I just outlined how I or anybody else could
read ""your"" pretty questionable message.

And beside that taking on the concern somebody else expressed.

including yours

I don't have a Katana anymore. I sent it back to the french hub quite a while ago.

I really hope that things get better soon.

Good luck.

Battery pack had the wrong polarity, we had informed John by email prior to his review and changed all battery packs with the correct polarity

Katana of Marudo had an issues , we changed it seems to work fine
Digione Sig , there was an overvoltage on the clean side .

We do take issues very seriously and have been always very transparent .Will continue to do so .

Our customer service is monitoring all hardware on the field and alerts us if any issue arises multiple times.

Right now its all good.

I agree. Allo has a good support.

I received wrong pin on the THD, they promptly changed it as well as the the heating MC & Katana.

I understand that Allo is a new company that handles huge surge of order. I dont think they receive the same order when they were still manufacturing networking goods. We all know it is a challenge in mass production.

Hopefully, the QC checks will be improved from front of line to the back of line. They should intensify inspection.

Though it caused me allot of inconvinience; I am also a big Allo fan!

Kudos cdsgames for bringing Katana to the DAC pipeline.

We do have QC on all products , Katana..was a bit rushed to be able to meet demand. We know and we try to learn from it .

Still we tried to be present for every client , taking the time to right any wrong from our side.

Meanwhile , our products seem to be well liked. Production is expanding . More products are coming guys , same recipe.

We strive to bring world class hifi wiht pricing that is in line with our BOM. One example...LPS routinely sell for 400-900$ . No published data , just mention of "uV of noise"

Behind the scenes I am trying my best to bring the MSRP at 150-160$

But as I learned from Katana , a full test with thermal camera will be taken to make sure there is no "heating" issue. Result will be shared publicly

So we will keep the same direction , just trying to do learn from our mistakes. We made a few , no doubt , but we tried to manage and be responsive .

We wont change that.

will katana team strive to develop an aesthetically good case?
IMHO, Darko is not reviewing it becasue the whole Katana stuff is not film presentable (esp with the portruding cap).

hope to see the result of the Katana thermal analysis

The first thing you should do:

Work on your communication skills and style.

All the hard and good work you do on the HW side can easily be wiped
out by weak or misleading communications and that includes the product documentation.

Example:

Right in the first sentence of your last post you contradict yourself and simply kill the message:

"QC on all products" vs. "Katana...was a bit rushed"

Should be:

"QC on all products - 0.28% failure rate so far, and that would be below/in line with (electronic) market average of 0.X% in the first year"
(let's leave that pre-production Katana 1.0 out of equation)

PS:
BTW: I'm sure Darko left that video on Youtube for a reason. He's a marketing pro.
That's IMO been a clear message towards Allo.

Soundcheck

I understand that you are trying to help and the above is your opinion .

However , changing my style and communication skills , its a difficult task . I am set in my way. :)
I am not a marketing pro , true , but I think I am a rather ok designer/architect for analog.digital audio . I will leave the marketing to other companies and will concentrate on bringing (what I consider) good designs to the market at a good price point .

Will keep in saying things how I see it.

Cdsgames,

I think heating issue is not only encountered by me. I see a dejavu with my unit. Very Identical issue.

Look at this complaint of katana use in A/S forum!

marudo,
Did Allo have you send your failed board to them for inspection, or do you still have it? Also, do you know what failed? An electrolytic cap?

If so, perhaps not so surprising since electrolytic capacitor life is known to be affected by heat, and most of them aren't rated for very high temperatures. If they fail, they may blow off some electrolyte to relieve internal pressure. They are generally designed to be able to do that for safety reasons.

When powered up: R channel 1.8mV
L channel 0.6mV

When powered down both channels measure 0.0 to 0.1mV.

Thank you! My katana puts out about .4 - .6vdc to the output RCA connectors for a minute or so after turning it off. I can measure it decrease to zero as the caps discharge. It had/has me concerned. I'm glad it's only mine. I've sent Allo mail via their website about the issue.

Thanks again.
