Hi WBS, that is what I plan to do in the future. I have some quantity of 2SK28s. We can parallel two 2SJ28s. 🙂🙂
I am not so knowledged but I think 2SJ28 + IRF240 will do the same work as 2SK82 + IRF9240. If not someone please correct me.

You may also consider the Laterals such as 2SK135 and 2SK1058, different harmonic flavour. As per usual, evaluate both speaker polarities.

Using the parts (IRF240 9240) from parts drawer seems to be Nelson's DIY philosophy. But I cannot help the curiosity about Lateral FET.. 😀

I realize we are talking VFET and not SIT, but would it be possible to find an N channel Mosfet whose Gate voltage is the mirror image of the 2SJ28 and then reverse the voltage to accomplish a similar result?

Yes, but be prepared for a phase reversal of 2nd harmonic.

That is the reason I suggested the lower gm laterals.

Since this is a non-inverting follower, you might want to reverse the phase
of the drive voltage and also the output.

SIT-3 kit by Nelson..

can be something similar to this? It is the DIY Sony VFet kit that I did not assemble yet. I found that they can be used as DEFiSIT with IRF9240 replacing 2SJ28. 😀😀

I tried this front end to my DEFiSIT output stage, and I like the sound, which is different from Firstwatt SIT-3. Maybe the FET regulation circuit could give some advantage?

The bias circuit for 2SJ28 needs to be converted for IRF9240 that needs negative voltage. 🙂
