The diyAudio First Watt M2x

The price is only USD 29 for a whole set.
Maybe one person wants just the main boards…..so you could combine. The version with JFET input is not that difficult to build on a perf board?
Or if a person just wants the main boards using one of the input boards and you don't need that…….many possibilities……..

Yup, many possibilities.
I just want to put the word out - if someone has Mountain View boards they don't need, I'd be interested. I have Tea-bag's M2 boards and have been toying with the idea of hooking up different inputs. Now if the same person also has the correct LED's, it would be a bonus and worthwhile paying courier fees.

Decided to hop on the M2X bus. I've been wanting to compare some of the front-ends here and this will be a good way to do it. For those needing trafos, this from Edcor:

"All orders must be placed before October 5th to ensure delivery by Christmas.
EDCOR will be closed November 22nd and November 23rd for Thanksgiving and December 21st through January 7th for the Winter Holidays.

It would be interesting to know from Mr. Pass what percentage were actually 'discarded' or 'outside of tolerance'. Maybe you got incredibly lucky, or maybe its the other way around, and some few buyers will get incredibly unlucky!

If that is a quick fix, great... for some of us, that will take over a month of shipment and about $50 in extra expenses to get that 'odd' edcor out of the equation.

Its really a different ball game from 'outside' the main courtyard! :(

Best regards,
Rafa.

The most important thing to measure on the Edcors, IMO, is whether any of the coils are open-circuit.

One of my output coils on one Edcor was damaged and did not show any resistance on a voltmeter. Tea-Bag said he heard one other person had this problem. The tiny magnet wires are fragile. One could have been loosened or broken during shipment or installation.

Better to measure before installation! I soldered in mine and had to track down the problem after the build with a scope and signal generator.

Since I have a box of tested Edcors, maybe I should bring some to BAF.

The people who want them the most, are the M2 builders who live far far away from the US, and must pay huge fees for shipping and also for import taxes...

Is there any chance that these could be channeled through the DIY Store? Perhaps as has been done in the past as 'kits' with the M2x boards? The kit could have a limit of 1 per customer to avoid hoarding... but that would help immensely for us abroad to combine the shipment of the boards and the trafos into a single shipping + custom fees.

Obviously, paying any additional premium for all the work that meant sorting out the good ones for the bad ones and also to compensate for the 'discarded' products value. I, for one, would be more than happy to do that.

Perhaps this will discourage a bit those in the US from opting into the kits, as the added premium would perhaps make buying directly from Edcor and measuring them a more attractive venture. That could help in getting them to those abroad that find them much harder to come by, but that would need to pay double shipping to get them from Edcor in the first place, so the premium would bring the price to a similar value.

At any rate, thanks everyone here for the incredible chance of getting these DIY projects to the hands of avid builders and listeners! Thanks truly,

Rafa.
Edit: I find it really hard to convey in English the idea, I hope it gets through as what is intended and not something with evil purposes... that is not the idea at all.

I ordered 6 Edcors last night - they shipped today. I plan to measure them mostly as a learning experience and will post results here. I will probably keep the best 4 and sell 2. Six is shy of I used to like as a statistically significant number of individual measurements but maybe it will help. And I'm sure I would need some help with measurements.

Exactly what I was talking about!!! For someone like you, that is not something too difficult, nor too expensive, and you can sell back two of them probably without much loss and you ensure yourself a nice set for your AMP.

For someone abroad, that is a riskier gamble, more expensive shipment, and resell options really slim.

I look forward to your findings!! Hope they are all tight and within 0.1% of specs! :)
