That's interesting, is lemon special?
I was, as most everyone is, rather skeptical at first. Here's a little something to suck on.

Lemon for Acid Reflux

Is Lemon Juice Effective in Treating Acid Reflux?

Though lemon juice contains citric acid, when it is mixed with water, it becomes alkaline which helps in neutralizing the stomach acids. Apart from that, it contains potassium and generates calcium carbonate which helps in the same.
It contains vitamin C and A, pectin and fiber that body needs to function properly and provides relief from pain and inflammation in the chest and esophagus.
It balances the pH levels so the digestive system can function properly.
It is naturally antibacterial, so it kills the germs that cause digestive problems.
It cleanses toxins and impurities from the gastrointestinal tract.
It regularizes the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and bile production in the liver, both of which are essential to the proper assimilation of nutrients from food.

Limes are just as good but around here the price for juice is about 4x.

Citric acid acts as a buffer between a pH of 2 and ~8, which is higher than your stomach's pH. So even in lemon juice it's a bit of a dilution (nothing like water). It definitely does NOT become alkaline, just between two valencies.

The rest, unfortunately reads like hocus pocus. That said, if it gets you drinking more and seems to mediate indigestion, then great. Lemon juice is good for some nutrients too.

So carry on. But if you're dealing with acid reflux, there's some pretty decent pharmaceuticals that can help, acknowledging most folks like to avoid that as much as possible.

Well, I'm just talking physical chemistry here!

I think they're talking about citric acid taking up an extra hydronium ion if it's put into a solution, e.g. an acidic buffer.

(I'm being pedantic, and want to reiterate if it's working for you, that is good 😀)

Back to your regularly scheduled food thread: I'm making carnitas this weekend (insert smiley smacking its lips).

I'd expected you to talk Cal into 24/7 sipping of Limoncello.
Already on it boss.
(afair, lemon juice has a pH value of 2-3, the range that opens up the bottom pylorus valve)
Is that why I fart so much? I blamed in on Candida.
The legalization of Everclear has spurred on a revival of the homemade stuff in our Italian community.
I just use vodka or even white rum. Heck you can even make one with Stevia or Sucrella for the sweetener. Whatever is used, I cut back on it as I'm not big on sweet. Limes, oranges and grapefruit are all good too.
Each time I see silly expensive packs of Vita Coco in a supermarket, I'm reminded of the affordable coconut water brands on offer at Asian stores for decades.
Careful, some of them contain no coconut at all.

I'll be making some lemon sauce later to go with my first attempt at Dolmades.

Entirely unremarkable really except perhaps that I'm using fresh vine leaves from my garden. Last year I composted the leaves I had to trim to let the (future) grapes get more sun but this year I'm making dinner!
