What are you drinking?

My favorite concoction for the last several years:

1. Fine-grind 1 lb. French roast at the grocery store (I like the Cameron's "Intense French" at our local chain).

2. Dump into approx 1.5 gallons of HOT (but not boiling) water, steep for 8-12 hrs, stirring occasionally. (Smells wonderful, looks like an oil spill).

3. Strain mixture through old plastic colander lined with extra-large Bunn commercial drip paper coffee filter into a 3-gallon plastic bucket from the hardware store. Pour approx. 6 more cups of HOT water over the coffee at this stage. Let stand until no more drips.

4. Remove and compost grounds. Add approx. 50% more cold water to bucket contents to reduce concentration; mix thoroughly.

5. Pour into pitchers, cover, refrigerate at least overnight. (Gets better with age.)

6. Serve with ice, Half & Half & sweetener to taste.

I love this stuff. Plus, I only have to make coffee about once a week, heh.

The best coffee I've had was made by my sister-in-law in a ceramic drip pot she bought in France. While hers eventually broke, she found one for me at an antiques store in NJ.

My taste in coffee is pretty simple...I buy the 3# tin from Costco and brew in a Bunn coffee-maker. The Bunn was a gift from my sons about 10 years ago.

Coffee grounds are acidic, pH around 5 so they can be used around rhododendrons, holly etc.

Sitting at the airport (JFK New York) waiting for the wife returning from France on vacation to see family(I stayed home to do home improvement work), so I'm having a Glenfiddich (the ch is pronounced as a sort of soft k) to kill an hour or so. Slainte

I am on Gilligan's Island now so we have to resort to drinking our own urine, filtered through a special 3 stage sand and charcoal unit the Professor devised.

EDIT: Oh... wait, The Skipper just informed me it's actually Budweiser. A case of it washed up on the south shore yesterday morning. Sorry for the confusion. TBH, I was confused myself, wondering why it was fizzy this time.
