Moode Audio Player for Raspberry Pi

Question.

I just this weekend discovered this thread, I had the hardware which I had acquired with the idea of installing Rune or something like it. RPi3 + HifiBerry DAC+ board.

Everything went fairly smoothly and I had an up-and-running system within a couple of hours.

The question is, is access-point mode meant to work without an ethernet cable connected to the network?

I ask this because when I disconnect ethernet the Moode system loses connection to the NAS storing the music. It makes sense because I don't expect wifi and AP mode to operate simultaneously, but I haven't been able to find any discussion on it.

Thanks in advance
Paul

Simple answer - yes, ALSA can handle up to eight channels and they can be a mix of anything also recognises - 2x i2s + 2x USB, for example.

MPD (and Moode) just goes along for the ride.

The issues are all going to be configuration-based. Identifying the device, assigning it a channel and any dsp or filters (for SW, etc). Not much different than the guys using Pi for active crossovers - lots of good info on that diyaudio thread!

I2S can handle 127 devices per master, so the number of channels are not going to be an issue. Stacking i2s hats off the gpio connector works.

I have a handful of cheap i2s dacs. If I can finish my massive led soldering job, I will have a look at nutting out the specifics.

Sweet! Good news. Thanks for that answer. Im confused by how the different devices on the bus are addressed, but will go check the diyaudio thread on crossovers. I may wire up two 5102 ($5 ebay dacs) on one pi and see what happens.

Hi Paul,

AP mode is automatically enabled when the SSID for WiFi (wlan0) is blank, and disabled when there is an SSID present. AP mode only supports client to Pi connection.

While you can physically have 127 devices, you will have issues with digital audio subsystem handling more than two channels. You will need to mod your raspbian system.

That being said, there are i2s devices that handle eight channels for recording and output.

Linn Kinsky & Kazoo

I know this has been touched on briefly before, but I was wondering if it was possible to use the Linn iOS applications to play music on Moode from its own DNLA server.

Playing music from a different DNLA server on Moode works perfectly with these applications. However, these applications mark the Moode DNLA server as unavailable.

What would be required to make this work and could it be turned on and off?

Cheers!

OK, another question.

I created a playlist of about 230 songs.

On the Playback tab with the playlist to the left, the 230 songs appear as duplicates…my entire library is the playlist.

auto shuffle is turned off.

I checked the entries on the playlist at /var/lib/mpd/playlists and only the 230 entries are there. There is no entry I can find that includes the entire library.

How do I limit the playlist to only the songs on it?

Again, thanks in advance

I can get Kinsky and Kazoo playing using uPNP, but not DNLA, through iOS.

They find my uPNP libraries, including Moode and finds Moode as a uPNP target and play fine.

I haven't tried PC/Mac versions, but imagine they work the same.

Hi Paul,

Not sure I understand what issue you are having, but you might want to try deleting all the items in the Playlist, refresh Browser then add your saved playlist contains the 230 tracks.

If you want to just random play through your entire collection then turn on Auto-shuffle in Audio config, then back on the Playback tab press the "Random play" button located on the button bar under the volume knob.

Thanks Zootalaws.

Could you please tell me what I need to do to make Moode uPNP libraries available. Can you actually navigate through the Moode uPNP libraries using Kinsky and Kazoo?

Cheers!

Hi Mike,

Those apps are UPnP control points and can't do any rendering. If u want to play music from Moode DLNA server on IOS u need to use VLC.

Just select "Local Network" from its menu and "Moode DLNA" will show up in the list. Drill into it and play some tracks 🙂

Hi Tim,

In my case I wasn't looking to play on my iOS device, I wanted to play on my RPi with Moode. I just wanted to use Kinsky/Kazoo as the controller from my iPad. So far the only thing I can play is the current playlist that is loaded on Moode. I would like to be able to browse the library if that function is available.

Cheers, Bryce.

Hi,

A new feature for selecting Artist or AlbumArtist tag to be used for the Library artists column 🙂

Hi Bryce,

I just tested using Linn Kinsky (not the most current version) and no issues playing content from Moode DLNA using Moode UPnP renderer. Both services running on same Pi.
