TABAQ TL for Tangband

Hi Jerms,

Thanks for your answers, but unfortunately I still do not understand the item 2.
Can I make a side wall so as in the picture above? If so, it will be noticeable deterioration in sound or insignificant?

Thanks Pavel

Yes, you can. I have done the same with my full range vented boxes. It also gives me something to grab to put a mesh screen if I want to protect the drivers.

The little wings will not affect the sound much.

How is it, please about BSC?

I agree. I have removed the BSC in my TABAQ.

Hi Bjørn,

How is it, please about BSC? If I understand correctly, the BSC is a coil and a resistor.

1. How many watts should be a resistor and inductor how many amperes?

2. Unfortunately I do not understand it. You're wrote: "I have removed the BSC in my TABAQ", but later You write: "My own test with different drivers works best with a 3.9 resistor".
If I will be to listen from a distance of 3 m to 4.3 m and the speakers would be tightly by the wall, it's better if I will use BSC? If so, is it ideal for this arrangement of 3.9 ohm and 1mH, or other value?

Thank You for Your advice

Bye Pavel

Baffle Step Compensation introduces a filter to deal with the reduction is bass output that happens when a speaker is played far from a wall. If you wish to "play" with it. I suggest downloading "the edge" software.

Yeah, the sound is well balanced !

By the way, is there a TABAQ design for a 5" driver?
My TABAQ with the 3" driver is good for my bedroom but not loud enough for the AV room. 😝

Yes, there is. It's called the TABAQ Large. Search a bit this thread to find the plans.

Here's an example:

BSC 4 inch

Hi

I have enclosed "in room" simulations of TABAQ with 4 inch driver.

In MJK´s models you can simulate how the performance would be in the living room, including reflections from floor etc.

In this case I would not use BSC, but building your own speaker easily leads to experiments with stuffing, BSC etc. I know some people include an extra foot filled with sand.

When a loudspeaker is close to the back wall or in a corner the bass will be inforced. You have probably noticed that.

The treble is inforced by the frontbaffle itself. The treble will therefore be too dominating and the overall sound will be unbalanced - too bright.

This is somewhat compensated by placing the speaker close to the back wall.

The baffle step circuit - just a coil and resistor - will attenaute the treble above the frequency where the treble starts to increase.

Hi
Bjørn

A few Tabaq questions:

I've built a set of the 2" driver Micro Tabaqs from Bjørn's plans (except I used some leftover laminate flooring that is 1 mm thicker than the stock in the plans, and did not bother adjusting the dimensions). Using them for nearfield listening on my desk, close to the wall, playing mostly jazz and rock at moderate volume levels. I find that they sound pleasant with some stuff, but can be harsh and shrill in the higher registers. Was a BSC for these ever designed, and if so, what effect would it have as I am using the speakers?

I am also in the process of building a set of the standard Tabaqs with the 4" Dayton RS-100 drivers. Using stock from leftover 16 mm MDF panels, with adjustments so that the internal dimensions will match those shown in the latest revised plans. I am using the "original" port, but with the higher driver mounting. They will be used in a long, narrow, high-ceiled bedroom, close to the rear wall. Again, mostly jazz and rock at moderate volume. It's not going to be practical for me to experiment with different amounts of stuffing in these, so I need to know what the simulation and/or experience shows would be the right amount to use in a "stuff it and forget it" scenario.

Thanks to Bjørn and everyone who has contributed to this interesting thread.

Tabaq Extended

Hello everyone,

Should I have a few questions to the construction of Tabaq:
1. I studied the modified plan Tabaqat from Bjørn, and I tried to draw it here – option „A“. I hope it's right. On this plan is also the second option "B" with a different shape of port. The port is of course still the same length (9.7 cm), but it is headed down. This allows the driver to move higher (closer to ears). Is this second variant „B“ better than the first „A“?

2. Bjørn told me, that sharp edge on a corner cabinet is not good, but unfortunately I did not understand, if I may move side wall enclosure in front of the front wall (about 3-4 mm), if the corners are rounded as shown here.

3. How a lot use of wool? Do i understand correctly that into the whole area of the upper 2/3 of the cabinet will give a total 100 g of wool? If Bjørn did this already calculated, it makes sense to try a different quantity?

Thanks everyone for your help and advice

Bye Pavel

Pavel,

I really like your model B the "Tabaq Extended"

I was planning to make a Tabaq with a "feet" filled with sand to put the driver a bit higher. With your desgin the "feet" is integrated with the port which is much easier to build :)

Have you already finished your speakers?

Just received a couple of new local drivers (AHE) and it looked like they would do great in the TABAQs.

Performance is about on par with the W4-1052SD I had in them. And at half the price, it's pretty good.

The AHE exhibit a little more distortion than the TB, and they both run out of steam after 10k (a bit earlier for the AHE), but since these will be for casual background music, I don't mind. They should do fine.

The W4 is in gold, the AHE in blue. Both have 3 or 4 bands of EQ to level things out.

RS 100 sim

Hi

A while ago I was testing RS 100 and did some sims. By increasing the area of the port, the bass performance would be better. The drawback wold be a loss in the low end.

I never build this one, but you could use this as an inspiration.

Take a look at the sims enclosed.

Mark Audio Alpair 7 sim

Hi

I have not simmed Mark Audio Pluvia Seven in TABAQ,but this driver is not far away regarding the specs.

Looks very good. If the bass is too domination, the last part of the line could be stuffed very light.

I have not had the pleasure to listen to Mark Audio drivers, which is my fault :D
