yes. Which is why I suggested other ways to accomplish same. Those you showed are all about 1000 USD with shipping. So, a 401 and this switcher, is about 700 USD. Generally, my rule of thumb is 50%. As this combo would be more than 50% of an AP, I would go with the AP. A kit cost would help but still be near 50%.
HOWever... if I already had the 400 or 401 ( or sound card) for a long time, the add-on switcher would not be as hard a cash flow hit.

Nope, still a big delta. No triggering features (think synchronous averaging), limited LF extension, no reference channel, etc...

Most of those are software. Come to think of it same for the AP. To enhance Jan's interface add a switchable notch filter and an output driver with an attenuator. There is a variety of software available to address most any measurement task.

I'm really interested in Jan's interface. I would be putting it into service pretty much immediately.

You can always argue with rule of thumbs percentage :), but having the ability to use whatever software you wish will make Jan device an excellent addition with maybe other hardware to fit your desire.

Although, I'm a bit skeptical of the target "100" for a group buy... but anyway I'm for one as I already wrote before

I'm waiting for prices for various bits for 50 units, should be reasonable enough.

Would anybody be interested in a kit (PCBs, enclosure, complete SilentSwitcher PSU) for self assembly? I have a complete Mouser BOM available.
It's a mix of SMD and through-hole but the smallest is 0805 which is huge in SMD terms and easily solderable without any special equipment.

What is the cost for a full kit?

I don't know yet, still waiting for some assembly prices for the SilentSwitcher supply, which is only a realistic option as fully assembled.

I hope to have all the spreadsheet blanks filled in later coming week and have prices for a kit and completely assembled.

The kit will be enclosure, two blank PCBs, the assembled psu, and the full BoM, construction guide and cal procedure.

Hi Jan,

What are you doing for a power supply.

I have not done it, but I have been tempted to use one of those very small cell-phone 1A or 2A USB plug-ins to provide 5V that can be converted to, say, +/-15V on the board. This would provide a bit less than 5W or 10W, respectively, for the electronics. This is more than enough for many electronic functions.

What are the best choices out there for the 5V to +/-12v or 15V converters? Are inexpensive ICs available that can do it with a couple of passives?

Cheers,
Bob

What are the enclosure dimensions?

I am not in my lab now but IIRC 195mm wide and 56mm height (say 7-3/4" x 2" approx).
It is a steel case to add some screening that an alu box would not give.

You can see the proportions in the pic here: https://linearaudio.nl/la-autoranger

I will some more info and pics coming week.

Thanks for that Jan, interest is whether my QA400 will comfortably sit on top and that looks like it will.

Presumably those are stereo jack sockets with shorting inputs when not in use? They'll also go nicely with the Pomona mono jack -> bnc converters for single end use.

Yes the SE input is RCA, the Bal input is a combo XLR/TRS. The outputs (SE and Bal) are TRS.
That fits best with most sources and soundcards.

I would like to purchase a complete kit, if it becomes available.

Oh it surely becomes available! I just am putting the finishing touches on the BOM to get the cost together. There are a lot of 0.1% resistors for instance, and Mouser will have some values from one brand in stock, other values from another brand, and they need to be the right size etc. A lot of keyboard pushes! ;)
Hope to have more info coming week.
