The rookie reporter was looking for a human interest story and wandering about he came across the oldest looking man he had ever seen. Thinking it would be a good story he asked the man what was his secret to a long life.

He replied he drank two fifths a day of cheap whiskey, smoked at least a carton of unfiltered cigarettes a day, ate a pound of bacon and a dozen eggs for breakfast, never touched fruits or vegetables, stayed up almost all night partying and never saw a doctor in his life.

The reporter found that amazing and asked just one more question as to how old the fellow really was. The answer of course was twenty seven.

That's the "since present data is muddy, let's just lower the standards of scientific integrity instead", Mr Marsh. That's the wrong solution. Better solution is to accept the limitations we presently have, and work hard(er) to get *good* data. That's audio/health/what-have-you.

It's pretty insulting to equate muddy data with tobacco industry's obfuscation.

When matters of nutritional "science" are concerned,.....
Very true Brad. I just knew I had to do something. I was living largely off of fried eggs and quesadillas. Getting cronic fatigue and sugar cravings like no other. Systolic BP was reaching toward 150. On March 10th The FOK movie was running as I was working and it was like it was made just for me. I woke up the next day and..... Now here I am feeling really good.

I support the Don Gorskes of the world. BUT, in my world that Big Mac would be made with pasture raised beef. 😉

I am not suggesting anyone lowered the standards to get reason into the tobacco debate. There is a lot of good work and in total and not one by one picking apart, as a debate strategy, that I find blocks progress more than anything... here as well as tobacco debates. Often the snide comments re side -issues are present as well here. A red flag to anyone trying to communicate as to what is going on.

morinix,
And that Big Mac would cost you $10.00! I have no problem with people who have the money buying only organic whatever or grass feed beef but the cost is not insignificant in difference. I don't particularly worry if my food is all organic, but I won't eat Albacore tuna daily, nor Swordfish or many other polluted fish though I love fish. I don't need a 1/2lb steak either. I try to eat a lot of vegetables, a limited volume of red meat, or other meats, I eat mostly chicken as animal protein and try not to add to many calories to that. Some people such as Brad's friend have to eat those potatoes every day with every meal or rice or some large quantity of some kind of carbs. There isn't anything wrong with potatoes with the exception that many of those potato eaters have them fried mostly they don't want a plain baked potato. Nothing wrong with eggs but I just limit them to once a week, just my choice.

The problem with so much of what we read about foods is it keeps getting changed, eggs are bad, no they're not. Cholesterol from food is bad, no its not. Coffee is good, coffee is bad. Oh no hot coffee is bad, coffee is okay. As Sy says it just seems to be opposite day all the time. When I see a true vegan and they are jaundice yellow looking am I suppose to think they are more healthy than I am, I don't think so. I get on my kids all the time to eat more vegetables, perhaps one day when they are on their own they will remember what I have been saying, you know how kids are , oppositional just to be that way.

But I still hate Lima beans and Brussel sprouts, never going to like them!

We have to be very careful about taking data in ensemble. There's a lot of lessons to be learned from realizing that GIGO is very, very easy to get into. Mediocre data can very easily corrupt and misrepresent the whole (especially when the data is fuzzy).

BTW, My hearing. Lower BP = better hearing.

T&M Junkies; Don't ask for plots because I have no plots from my high BP existence

Hypertension as a factor associated with hearing loss

" High pressure in the vascular system may cause inner ear hemorrhage, which is supplied by the anterior inferior cerebelar artery, which supports the inner ear artery and is divided into cochlear artery and anterior vestibular artery5, which may cause progressive or sudden hearing loss3,4. This circulatory system pathology may directly affect hearing in a number of ways. One of the vascular physiopathological mechanisms described is the increase in blood viscosity, which reduce capillary blood flow and ends up reducing oxygen transport, causing tissue hypoxia, thus causing hearing complaints and hearing loss in patients6. Moreover, arterial hypertension may cause ionic changes in cell potentials, thus causing hearing loss."

At Jesuit private boy school, they forced me to eat rhubarb.
After three days of getting the same plate of rhubarb served morning, noon and dinner, I let myself get suckered by one of the pussies with talk of getting good food if I quickly ate the sheit.

As payback, I sheited in my boy scout neckerchief, knotted it, and placed it in my locker next to the dining room table.
After two weeks of smelly complaints, the lockers were inspected and I was requested to clean up mine.

There ! Shame about the neckerchief though, was really fond of it.

You have a lot to learn about research in the huckster world, youngster. What you do is cherry-pick data that supports what you're peddling for fun and/or profit (don't worry about data quality if it supports your pre-determined view), ignore contrary data, then call it "meta-analysis." Of course, the bandwagon fallacy helps.

The nice thing about this method is that you don't actually have to understand or analyze, just grab links or wave your hands and get indignant when asked for cites or backup.

The FOK diet works basically by removing sugars, animal and oils (nuts are a grey area) from your diet. It is realy hard to go overbaord on calories without those things in your diet.

As far as vegans not looking healthy, even FOK says to consider taking B12 and Calcium pills. That's what I do.
