It was hard to make up the actual shape of the cone. But compared to your images it seems the same treatment has been applied to the Beyma 5". It could as well be dome shaped and this flat or dome shape seems to make sense with regards to loading of the horn. The wavefront will probably be optimized this way. I can imagine the midrange will 'act' similar to a large dome driver, or even to a compression driver if the cone is flat.
A backcover was available for the 5" Beyma drivers.
In the article I read about the Zero 1 (which I'll post later) the omission of a compression chamber for the midrange and the impact is explicitly mentioned. The 5" is mounted in a very tight compartment, but it's obviously not a compression chamber.

On second thought: glueing a large dustcap to the cone of an otherwise unmodified driver will most likely ruin efficiency because of the increased mms. The driver on the images seems to have a strong motor to compensate for the mass.

In this PR video one can also see some details of an Avant Garde midrange horn - and yes, they are using con drivers with a large cone added.

It's a fact Avantgarde puts a lot of effort in their hornspeakers and they don't use cheap components either. Still, the pictures from audioshock show drivers and other components from their older and (far) more expensive loudspeakers. A lot of (modified) Beyma drivers amongst these. It appears they have even modified drivers into (a kind of) field-coil units.
Nevertheless, what makes the Zero 1 a bit more special compared to their exotic stuff is it rather straightforward design without the esoteric fuzz. Class D amps and dacs are supplied by Hypex. The drivers are quality parts, but can be bought at very decent prices. Apart from this dome treatment to the mid, building a Zero 1 clone may be feasible for the more advanced diy-er.
It would be interesting to see how the Zero 1 would hold up against the M2 in a direct comparison, since they are about the same price.
This is the article on the Zero 1, which contains extensive measurements by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Goertz from IFAA:

Buff, it's called avantguard? Nothing to add, these guys self define themselves fine enough, the rest is buzz and weird sound...😀
Btw, Beyma's studio range is awfull junk stuff, nobody in Spain would spend any money on... The rest of the world being free to make their own free choice, lol...
Frankly, apart from play loud, what is all this junk good for?

All Beyma range ?
Usefull when need a big BL, high efficienty... even some MMS/high Sd for low bass ?
Supravox came from the PA studio world, Ferin from outside sound re enforcement if I don't mistake ...
oh nio don't tell me there is just Altec, lol ! and a lot of low efficienty brand to avoid distorsion ?
People like Zaph, Mark K. are too rare... Now a speaker is also about a whole design ! A room as well ! Nothing new ...
I didn't like the Avantgauard above ! maybe the vendor, the room, a problem (at this proce!).... I'm not sure it is better than a JBL M2 !

Litteraly, loud-speakers, for refinement look else where, nothing there to call home about...😀
But, sure, PA speakers have their fans, even for home "hifi" use...😕
They call that High Efficiency... His master's loud barking voice, lol...
Btw, Supravox, worse even than Beyma. Don't be so nostalgic, not really worth the pain...
And regarding diy in Spain, audiophile diyers here dream about Audio Technology, Seas, Scanspeak, Accuton, etc... We only consider PA stuff for PA, dance music, "Vamos a la playa" , Pacha, "Viva la noche", Fiesta, etc... Nothing really serious, nor worth bothering for serious quality loudspeaker dying, despite "bad" influence from Northern Europe, Hiraga and followers...

Forgett : "Un , dos, tres...."😀..... Hummmm🙄 pas mieux here !😀
Hey, a VOTT A5/A7 : not so bad in a big living room > 35m², An Onken with some squared ports with felt as well 🙂... sure the higher register is a little problematic 😀 (ink, ink, ink!)
But Frankly our "little" speakers lack of life, the tempo is acurate but borring but casual listening of course... or you experiment each time you raise the volume Something compressed (the reccording also often), fatiguing, not free....
As if the soundstage could hide all the rest ?! Nah !
Now, it's not always about high efficienty speakers, but after what choices ? increase the Sd or let grow horns in your garden...

Imho, life like sound is simply the wrong target...
Huh?? Isn't anything else a form of coloration?
Huh?? Isn't anything else a form of coloration?
Indeed, it is, but i also believe that purism is the wrong way...😀
There is no science, nor truth, nor any thing but illusions and make believe in audio, at least regarding speakers, stuff you love, and stuff you hate. Truth is the most obvious off topic.

Have to disagree with your statements here GDO, but as we have already agreed upon earlier: it's a matter of personal preferences.
Imo loudspeaker technology in itself is pure science, physics for the greater part. In commercializing their products brands add all sorts of marketing buzz to their augmented product.
On PA vs Hi-fi speaker components: I have never seen a bling-bling type of nonsense product from B&C, Beyma, BMS, Faital-Pro, 18Sound etc. like this:

😀.... they made a brainstorming in a coffee shop before designing it !
I like too much the grill : looks like the one on my table to putt the Hot Cassoulet marmitte !

If you don't want it to sound like real music, what do you expect it to sound like?

Sure, pro stuff is for real pro guys with true pro needs, no ********, no nonsense, no snake oil, no esoterism, no etc...😀

This thread has seemed to unravel.
I'm kinda astounded that all of my well thought-out posts get about four replies, but I come up with a trollish title like "JBL M2 for the poors" and it receives 400 responses 😛
The real magic is in the "names" not in those technical concepts you try 😀.
This threads trigger "JBL" and "M2". But look at other examples like the Beolab 90. The beauty is how good we all are in judging these speakers without even hearing them. Kind of makes you think we don't need to build any speakers at all... we already know how it's going to sound anyway! 😀

Sure, the title in itself feeds the trolls with premium quality raw material...😛
