really? how many eyes have revisited this over decades (maybe i'll have dig up my old undergrad biomedical instrumentation text book)
Yep, they're still at it. As of right now, I don't really know the body of data to determine the how useful these types of tests are, but I do know that the wearables community are pretty interested in these types of tests, as it'd allow them to report "health" data wrt stress/etc.
But a lab at Ohio State just recently was able to use skin electrodes to signal muscles to fire (grossly) in a quadriplegic man. (Neural implants into the motor cortex fed through a pretty fancy DSP engine). Restoring cortical control of functional movement in a human with quadriplegia : Nature (Hopefully it kicks you out to the abstract)
So really depends on what you're really going for. I can pretty safely imagine that being able to do a full neurological workup from a few nice cuff electrodes and cap is closer than it's ever been.

.
and here I thought my eyes were failing me and just after i'd seen an OD*!
Re "abstract" I found it wants to kick me in my wallet haha
*(that OD instead giving me an RX for best distance she thinks her job was done when 20/20 is achieved, sheesh mediocre at best. IMO that is one industry that is going down.)
anyhow shouldn't there be two skin models one for stimulus and one for response,
or at least one super duper complex one (non-linear voltage dependent one)

Sorry, just delete the .epdf from the end and our should send you to the abstract. (Checked on my phone just to make sure)
Hopefully this works:

Yeah, there's loads different between driving muscle firing transdermally (or even transdermal readings of nerve firings) and skin conduction/chemistry.
I'm pretty ignorant in both, so I'm going to keep my mouth shut as to avoid sticking my foot in it. 🙂

I saw an ad once for a special !power cord! that was supposed to make things sound oh so clarified and wonderful. Naturally it cost big $$$
Wow about interconnects and speaker wire that's been treated with REAL Snake Oil? How could a sonic sycophant say no to having them?
But of course, the actual oil itself and methodology of treatments would be proprietary, intellectual [LOL!] property.
Proclaiming this would impart a feeling to purchasers of technological correctness as well as the requisite sense of mystery.
I can see forum postings such as "The Cobra MK V's definitely have a ( Fill in the blank ) tonal quality, but I would probably go with the Copperheads for their superior ( Fill in the blank )".
Notice From The Manufacturer: Snake oil can not and will not be sold to the public under AnyCircumstances. If you should happen to suffer from uncontrollable deprivation syndrome subsequent to using our products, we suggest you bid on counterfeit product at a qualified web store, and convince yourself that is IS real.

Did you know that one of the earliest 'premium' cables was actually called the "Cobra Cable"? It had lots of parallel C and low Series L, to aim for an 8 ohm impedance, if I remember correctly. They caused a lot of Phase Linear power amplifiers to go up in flames from the heavy capacitive load!
Chords new cables.

A new dielectric called taylon.

So what is Taylon® ? Nigel from Chord said “it is a unique insulation material that has never been used to produce audio cables before and is exclusive to The Chord Company with its roots being in the US military”. “Although its dielectric constant is very slightly lower than PTFE, Taylon® is phase-stable at typical room temperatures” said Alan. Needless to say there were questions about the makeup of Taylon® but none were forthcoming as both Nigel and Alan stressed they did not know and will not be told given the origins of this material.

Implying PTFE is not? How could you possibly insulate a wire with a material that isn't phase stable at room temp? Encase the cables in liquid nitrogen filled sleeves?
= £2,100 (USD $3025) for plugs and terminating, and I think that is for one channel only.Analogue: RCA 1m: £3,800 (USD $5475); additional metres £1,700 (USD $2450)
Assuming retail markup of 100%, USD $1500 is taking the mickey for two plugs and labour.
How do these guys manage to keep a straight face.
Dan.

Easy, I'd think, when you are pocketing a lot of money from some poor sap for no work... Original cost, a few bucks...
Ah another use of a secret military based material making it into the audio world...
Couldn't find any references to Taylon on a couple of polymer trade name sites, where's a polymer scientist when you need one!😀

Good to see the high end technology transfer to budget cables

The big secret though, is all these cables are pointless, you won't get the full sonic benefit, - unless you also filter your cranium with a tinfoil hat (not just any hat, one of the real expensive ones...)
Implying PTFE is not?
That's right, it's not. That has zero to do with the electron transport properties.
"Taylon" is Chord's registered trademark, it's not actually the name of any polymer.
I use phase stable cables most days -- at a few GHz....

If you really want a good, pointless at audio, cable then buy an Anritsu one!
