I need to visit the UK some time, lots of interesting things I have learned of over the years. Would be interesting to visit.Distances of a few miles can sometimes make a difference which locals can detect. I grew up in North-East London, in the valley of the River Lea. Back then, I could often tell the difference between a local accent, and the accent of someone from the other side of the valley - about 3 miles away! I can't do it now, as I have been living away from London for several decades.
Nowadays even the BBC does not speak BBC English, but instead the peculiar mid-Atlantic speech favoured by our youngsters. On the BBC we now have 'bugs' instead of 'flies, wasps, bees, butterflies etc.'. We now 'meet up' with people instead of 'meeting' them. We have 'ongoing' issues instead of 'continuing' issues.
I have worked in Texas for some time, when I just arrived, everyone notices I had a New York accent. By the time I left, I noticed that I was catching on the Texas accent.
Something I found today that really made me laugh. TAS review of a D'Agostino amp
D'Agostino Classic Stereo Amplifier | The Absolute Sound
The mind boggles. I hope to goodness its bad journalism and not something Dan said!
Look on his homepage and read the description of his amps 😀
😱Can't imagine "through hole" now becomes an indication of build quality.
You guys do not understand the concept of marketing.
There are plenty of TH components that are not duplicated or improved by SM.You guys do not understand the concept of marketing.
Just sayin'.
Dan.
I guess I have a mental block rather than lack of understanding. Some things we just need to let others do. [emoji6]
An equally odd thing is happening in the deep South . Most every one is becoming mid- western in their accent. Not a totally bad thing given it is a much more easily understood accent. However the Scotch/ Irish colloquialism and other contraction that where the signature of the place are lost any where near a city. The move to a non native regional accent is viewed as being more sophisticated and urban by the young who most desire to be a uniform individual like the rest ( yes a bit of an oxymoron).

Yes, but that doesn't then infer TH shows a better product. In audio there are some good reasons for SM.

iS THERE, MAYBE SOME POWER DEVICES BUT OTHERWISE smd RULES.
Bye.
In this case I believe you would use compare 'with' rather than 'to' as both objects are similar, ie: a language.Compared to what time period.
Correct use of compare to, as the objects are dissimilar."Shall I compare thee to a summers day?"
Incorrect use of the word and when revert is used correctly, revert back is a redundancy.revert back
Isn't this fun? 🙂
hehe
lol
chortle
I revert back is a redundancy.
Not quite invoking Skitt's Law, but surely it is a tautology?
Of course one could claim Hinglish as a dialect...
There are plenty of TH components that are not duplicated or improved by SM.
Great example of refuting a claim that:
(1) Was never made.
(2) I don't know who is stupid enough to ever make.
A great many components can be improved by SM technology by allowing them to be smaller and lower their cost.

Another one that makes me chuckle. The designers give the whole dog and pony about component selection and how they have designed out problems with class D, but it can't even do a flat FR to 20kHz and the gain on the balanced input changes by 4.5dB depending upon whether you ground or float pin1.
Once again JA, to his credit says 'this not an amplifier that can be universally recommended, I feel'

Please, I'm lactating.
Wow! Chortling, lactation, and the exaltation of snake oil - all in the same thread!
I'm all a-tingle! 🙂

Jacco was having a dig at me. Mind you he has been particularly coherent recently to hate to think what's wrong with him 🙂
Take a TDA1541 DAC. Many claim that the 2x7 rows of 100nF reference decoupling capacitors should be increased. Please, I'm lactating.
Something like 1uF X6R 0603 smd capacitors would allow higher value really close to the pins.
Other noteworthy choices in the RPA-W7EX's design include Tsutomu Banno's "ground-plane branching" circuit-board layout
Though it's fair to note that the highest-level hum component lies at –77dB (0.014%), this behavior suggests that there is something not quite optimal about the 'W7EX's internal grounding
Take a TDA1541 DAC.
Some would name that an antique.
I attended a 3D print convention earlier this week. One of the stands was by a company that restores vintage cars, by printing copies of original parts. A niche market, same as your fossil DAC.
I can think up half a dozen far more important advantages, same for surface mount devices.
