Reference DAC Module - Discrete R-2R Sign Magnitude 24 bit 384 KHz

Would an XMOS chip even work with a programmable clock on its own? Every reference USB to I2S converter always calls for its own pair. Understandable you would just use those clocks for everything else too.

In principle, it's a system design decision. But those two oscillators are way cheaper than the silabs programmable oscillators....

apologies for use of band name i only meant it as an example
its not my intent to diss your oscillator choice

and its your right not to discuss your headphone dac here i understand that

just something that i was thinking about this last while
that there should be a market for i2s only dac modules with an external oscillator input at 22/24mhz
with no digital filter to single ended
ability to use two for balanced setups
priced under 100 euro/piece

It's ok to ask, as long as nobody get offended if I don't answer....

That would be the dam1121.... There is always are market for lower cost products, but don't expect EUR 100 anytime soon, that would require some advanced engineering and higher volume....

LOL
im sure most of us have thicker skin

is there any product info available on the dam1121
i thought it had almost as many features as the diy board?

Yes, but there are also a few that easily get offended, especially if they feel ignored....

Not much yet, but as soon as the dac1101 start shipping I'm going to finish docs and firmware for the dam1121 and ship that too, already have the first small batch of production boards....

its official i cant read
Input is I2S and SPDIF, with reclocking FIFO. Clocking is with low jitter digital programmable oscillator, either on board or off board. Multiple board can be syncronized for balanced or multichannel use.

probably would have went more barebones on it
i can understand the cost difference would be negligible vs the 1121
and after developing the 1121 your unlikely to make yet another feature reduced version

ill try the 1121 and see

Notice the size of the dac1101, the front plate is only 20mm x 108mm so the text is actually not that big, I prioritized readability over beauty....

Dear Soekris,

Notice the size of this separate. Just boring black 2U box. Well they did manage something special that i still remember after all these years. It's not about design overkill, but simple things , just a bit of personality.
It's up to you, don't get me wrong, I have subscribed to this thread from day one almost. I admire your work, and even if i don't own one yet i have a positive bias.
For ready-made products, you can be happy saying , "well it's readable", "well, it's really small you know" ( hmmm text does'nt even align with leds gorsh ) or go just the extra inch (I'm not even talking miles here) and make history. Up to you man.
PS: Kudos for all you've done, ( and also to the community here)

(Hint about text orientation inside)
Best,
Thomas
