Another VRef mod, 16 820uF FPCAP polymer caps directly across the ceramic caps. They are definitely making a difference (subjectively).

luchoh,

I have had similar issue with RPi 2, checking the squeezelite log file showed that it was in fact sampling at a lower than expected sampling rate (48Khz) and because the RPi 2 does not have a lot of horsepower for re-sampling or high quality then one will get the "white noise".

This happened to non DSD material.

Using a PC (more CPU power) with USBtoI2S will yield much better results and >192Khz capability.

Thanks gavinb!

I have updated FW to 1.04.

Massive click still occures when changing sample rate. Especially, but not only at switching to 96k; 44k-48k switching is much more silent.

Click appears before new value string appears on the rs-232 interface.

Strange... I'm still on 1.03 (it was working with my Amanero since the bug was for SPDIF) and I thought the clicking was notably less (absent except for two situations).

One of the loud clicks happen when you're quickly switching tracks and searching within a track. (quite a rare scenario to be doing this, so I'm not too bothered)

The other is a tad more annoying to users like me who pool some favorite tracks together regardless of albums and set it to random. Pops occur when the tracks switch from DSD to PCM... otherwise I don't hear them on normal usage. That said, there is a small 2-3 secs silence on start of DSD tracks for me.

In my short 2-3 hours of listening time over the weekend, I thought the onboard DSD conversion matched up pretty well to Foobar's SACD plugin up to DSD 256 (Just tested DSD 512 for the fun of it and that had no sound).

When the dam1021 is feed DSD is will display L02M, L05M or L11M, depending on DSD speed.

When no DSD signal and the USB interface is still supplying valid clock, it will display that clock, even if nothing is playing as the dam1021 don't know nothing is being played.... At least that what my DIYINHK USB-I2S interface is doing when the DSD stream is stopped, it keep supplying the clock used when playing DSD....

It turned out that my PC was acting up.. One reboot fixed the issue.

It didn't help that I was doing the testing without actually listening to what the DAM was outputting. :p Lesson learned..

Hi all,

two things ....

- First i have done the "16 caps mod" (16 x Nichicon Aluminium Organic Polymer Capacitors 16V 330uF) on a board from the first version. As Rodeodave says: "They are definitely making a difference (subjectively)." :D

- Second, i found a pic on my HDD which was named as "tl431v5plw_-_100uF-16V.jpg". Can someone say something to this, thanks?!
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Ok, found it ... VRef Mod

@Søren,

another playground with problems.

My third dam1021-05 (sn 000257) with an really old fw (thing was 080) has played without problems and after i updated to 104 it lost the lock each second.
Code:
# set

Conspeed = 115200
Volume = +00
Filter = Linear
Mode = Normal

# filters

04 Bypass FIR1, 384 Ksps
08 Linear Phase FIR2, 384 Ksps, 0-76 Khz -1 db, 192 Khz -100 db
29 DC Blocking IIR, 384 Ksps, 2 Hz HP 1st order
30 Deemphasis IIR, 384 Ksps, 50/15 uS

# exit

My other updated dam1021-02 (sn 000464) plays as expected without these problems in the same config.

Config: Mac mini - WaveIO (latest FW) - dam

Any hints for me? Can you send me an old fw for testing? Can i do something to locate the problem?

Ok, found it ... VRef Mod

Actually, I believe that picture was someone's suggestion to get around the startup issues that some are having after they modify the board where the vref rails aren't rising at the same time.

I actually have to try this mod on one of my boards (which has this issue) so I remember it :)

I connect AES SPDIF to two dam dacs in parallel running balance mode. I use SPDIF1+ and SPDIF1- and GND as connection. It can lock the signal in normal case, however, when I switch on/off the lights in home such as the lamp in toilet or kitchen, it will loss signal and muted for 1/2 second until it can relock again.
Does anyone know what would be the cause and how to solve it? Thanks.
