A NOS 192/24 DAC with the PCM1794 (and WaveIO USB input)

btw.. anybody know if it would be possible to feed the Deck Boards Left/Right Adjusted Signal directly from Ian's I2StoPCM converter board ?

I don;t know specifically about Ian's reclocker, but it has proved possible to use something like the BBB Botic driver to output the 2 data channels for left and right in the correct format for the deck boards and therefore do without the main board. I am very interested in this, but I have yet to try it
 
What is the best way to add dac boards to existing one? Unsoldering current one seems to be pain in ***.
However stacking additional boards to currently soldered might have negative influence, because straight wire connecting all boards will have lower resistance than adding additional boards by soldering them to existing connections.

don't worry, I did disassemble 8 stack DACS, juts by cutting the wires close the the solder joint and after repair (what was the reason) resoldered all wires back to the original joint with a Little extra drop solder. I did not found anything negative....

OR use a desoldering Iron. I have one too (need it for regular repairs on through hole components) Still, that is not easy as well and a lot of work. It looks better afterwards. But is the most important you need to ask yourself?

Going through this thread, I noticed a post in 4/2015 about a prototype DSD DAC that Doede was working on. I am curious to know whether this project is still ongoing or not. It would be great if Doede can share some info. on that.


:D I have prototypes, but i am NOT satisfied.... so I am in actual design phase II for a new set up. Also not 100% sure which way to go (means what compromise to take, as there are always compromises to be made...). Looking for extra brainwaves :p If you want to this really GOOD you need to be very creative, believe me... The existing solutions with CHIPS (internal converting to PCM) are not an option. Also directly filtering the digital signalwith opamps or even straight out of the actual digital signal after flip flops (interprating the digital signal as an analog one) are also not an option. It sound nice till good, but I know it can be done better. Just did not had te final hunch. Will take some time. My JOB is somewhat busy with travel around the world :eek:

I have ordered the FIFO with I2StoPCM. I will try the setup by directly feed the Decks with Left/Right Data from PCM board. I will report my results here :)
 
i recently built a clclc psu with high inductance amorphous core chocks (5H, 150mA, 75 ohm) and to my ears it sounds much better than using the low-inductive filament chocks which i tested before.

Is this a Sowter TVC used as output stage with variable gain (here)?

I have discussed this idea with Doede a while ago, and he argued that these TVCs are not designed to cope with DC, so might produce excessive distortion.

What do you mean with DC? Direct current? Because any transformer is a DC filter?

Yes, DC = direct current. But I am NOT referring to the power supply filters. I was looking at the output transformers.

The output transformers by Doede are specifically designed to take some DC without saturating. The ones on the picture of post 3802 are different, and I believe they are Sowter TVCs. I don't think they are designed to cope with DC and the associated saturation, but it would be super cool if they would work well in the DDDAC output, because that would allow volume control!

It's the diameter of the wire I'm trying to work out, it measured the connecting wire on the DAC I made last year and it looks like 1mm

Oh, sorry i don't get the point :usd:

You are right it seems to be 1mm... btw. layout data viewer download available on Doede's 1794 Page.. see screenshot attached...
