SX finished
SX amp finished 😀
There were some "issues" during the build. I have had good help from Bonsai.
This amp really sings. Dead silent on my 96dB speakers. Lovely sound. And sure the amp can rock😉
Running Soekris dam1021 dac unbuffered direct into the SX amp.
Transistors used.
bc550c/bc560c

Thanks alot Bonsai for this great thing!

Wow - beautiful build Magnus - thank you for sharing your pictures and sound experience. I hope you have plenty of enjoyment from your system - those speakers look awesome!
Appreciate your patience as well during the build!

D15 tells you the speaker connection is alive.
I used green to indicate OK.
But I want to discuss with Bonzai who seems to be too busy to deal with my enquiry from last month.
D15 should illuminate for 5-8 seconds.Illuminates me, now.
Don't have speaker protect. Is it necessary? I'll wait for Bonsai to answer that.
It is only 15w amp.
BTW: Think it looks kind of cool with the red glare in the cabinet.
And the speakers of course.
Onken cabinets, Hemp acoustics co15v drivers. (15" coaxial)

Are you sure that you want 25v D.C on your speakers?
I don't think so....
Yes, a protection circuit is absolutely necessary🙂

Speaker protection is a must why you take that risk even more than 2v will damage your driver.Your speakers looks awesome monster

Wow, great job! 🙂SX amp finished 😀
BTW: Isn't that case oversized? Too much empty space for my taste... 🙂
Isn't nowadays a super silent fan + small heatsink a feasible option even for class A?

Can you recommend a super silent fan? I have not been able to find one. If I could I would use my Krell.

A silent fan is like a unicorn or a Sasquatch. They don't exist.
I used 2 of this extreme low noise Jamicons: JF0825H1E-01 (80x80x25mm 12VDC) with even furher reduced rpm.
The amp was on my desk ~0.5m from me. Of course at night in total silence I could hear it a bit but almost nothing.
From 1-2m I doubt you could hear it. Nevertheless a class A could need a bit more ventillating then my class B...
But the popular 12cm PC fans should be even better I guess!

Yeah, Noctuas are cool too!
With one of these per side you can decrease your heatsink and case size to fractions... 😉

Hey Do,
Thanks, I just ordered one. Looking forward to trying it out. I have 4 amps that have fans and I can hear all of them so I don't use the amps. I'd love to add my KSA 50 back into the stack.

Terry if the fan need 12V try to use 8V or even les, just make sure to get enough cooling. Sometimes people connect two fan in series ..
Less speed less noise..
Just an idea if you did not tried yet..
Greetings
The Noctua comes with three different cables to reduce the fan speed, so likely a resistor embedded in the cable.
Fan or not 🙂
My 4u chassis had nothing to do anyway.
The amp sounds extremely good.
After several hours of playing at moderate levels I can measure about 40 degrees Celcius on the heatsinks. Its 20 degrees in the room. So it is not getting hot at all.

Hey everyone,
I am new to diyaudio, but I have been planning to build the SX for some time. However, this will be my first DIY amp so I lack the experience of just about everyone on this forum. Already bought a chassis from Modushop and PCB's from Jims. Ordering parts is the next step, but as I understand from this and the hifisonix thread there are some issues with obsolete parts, some with the PCB from Jims, typos in the current BOM, minor changes etc. I understand that this is all just part of the process, but it would have been very nice with an updated BOM for the SX...
-Congratulations with your build, bambadoo. Very nice!
