George, an excellent idea! I often used their service and the quality is very good for a most reasonable price.

One thing to look out for is that their panels are anodized BEFORE being routed to size, so the edges are not anodized (unless you pay extra).

I have worked around that by ordering a suitable case from HIFI2000 in Italy and sending the front- and rear panel to Schaeffer as 'customer furnished material' (there is a selection for that in their design software). Works like a charm, just put a sticker with the order number on the panel ad send it off to them.

Hi Jan,

thanks for that idea, it sounds very workable. I did contact Schaeffer years ago to get them to set up a customer-contributed database of front panel designs. With the agreement of the customer, the idea was that we could all just "pick and mix" from contributed designs. This should have been workable with standard cabinets (1U, 2U, etc). Naturally nothing came of it, so we all keep redesigning this particular wheel. Seems hard to nudge German companies into this kind of cooperative activity.

Hi Carl,

thank you for the Hi-res. It is a good starting point, but I guess I would need to extend the controls to the right to support a selector (ref. previous messages on this).
BTW, I like your uploaded speaker (and other projects) on Photobucket. Sadly, I have mislaid my Klipsch DIY project photos. They did move the air very well though :)

Also Schaeffer have a US subsidiary so should be easy to deal with from that oversized island ;-)

Schematic and BOM for Power Supply

Here is the schematic and BOM for the project power supply. It is a subtle variation on the one pointed to by Mr Self earlier in this thread. It is from his "Small Signal Audio Design" book.

Thank you for the recognition. It has been more of an effort than what I had expected. However I view the time spent as well worth it. I am giving back as my thanks for Doug Self offering up this excellent design and for you affording the vehicle to make it available. So in view of that, I thank you!
