power down solution

Installing a battery is really simple.

For safety just make sure its the type with a built in protection circuit that prevents both over-charging/discharging and under-voltage. This way you can safely just install (carefully) and forget.

I just used ordinary self adhesive hook and loop material.

When using Miero's distribution - when main power is lost - shutdown is automatically initiated.

After power is restored it will start up again.

It is proving to be a simple effective solution. I also have a power cape - but I don't see any need to use it right now.

Cheers!
Russ

Hi Russ,

Do you intend providing us with this little battery board. Without the battery off course.(have one already)

Don't see it in the order list...

Which Modules

Hi

I am new in thisforum, for now I purchased amonero and BBB, There is a manual explaining?. I wauant order the necessary modules to use at my discretion Amonero or BBB

Virginio

You can't really compare the two approaches directly. The BBB approach is a completely self contained audio appliance complete with UI(mpd,DLNA etc) and direct control over the DAC(I2C).

The USB approach is simpler - but not as powerful.

We support both - and cronus works exactly same for both. The audio signal quality is identical between both. :)

Oh also - one tested approach is to put teleporter between the Cronus and the DAC - this also works quite well! Since the time delay injected by the LVDS is constant - it really does not add any appreciable phase noise - just a fixed propagation delay.

Cheers!

With one Cronus - You can use any single Hermes module at a time (we currently have 2 but there are more coming)

If you want to use two concurrently you will need two Cronus.

I am working up a technical manual and there is an integration manual in the works too.

It is not hard to put this all together though and you can feel free to use the forum to ask for help should you desire it.

Cheers!
Russ

Announcing what we are working on before we are ready to launch has never been anything but trouble for us. If we mention we are playing with something, people expect it to be a released product and the timer starts. The fact is, we toy with a lot of ideas, but most never become products, even many that are late in development. If we think there is a better way, or that it just isn't ready for prime time, or will be too much effort to support, we do not release.

Our policy is now, when we are ready to green-light a project, we will announce it. I hope that makes sense.

It makes a LOT of sense.

I have been following this thread from the beginning, more than one year ago. And look what the mail brought today:

Thank you Russ, Miero and everyone that has contributed in the development of this nice little gem! :grouphug:

I can't wait untill it's saturday and I have time to build it up.

Regards,

Could someone clarify something for me please?
I am going to use Hermes and Cronus/Rhea connected to BBB to obtain !2S and/or SPDIF to output to a Wyred 4 Sound DAC-2, not Buffalo.
Miero has already stated that Hermes and BBB share common 5v power supply, my question is will Hermes then power Cronus or do I need separate 5v supply for it?
Will no doubt have further questions about how to connect I2S output to W4S DAC-2 HDMI input, is there anyone else going down this route?

In the ideal case the Cronus should be powered from the DAC power supply, because there is galvanic isolator on the Hermes-BBB.
Looking at the posted pictures I only see a clearly marked 5V input on the Hermes-BBB. Not sure if this is for the isolated part or non-isolated part. On the pics of the Cronus I am not seeing a 5V input. Hopefully the docs will clear this up.

Hermes does not power Cronus - but the other way around - Cronus powers the clean side of Hermes (with 3.3V). The 5V input of the Hermes is to power the BBB side of things. :)
