I think you will be pleased with the Hermes/Cronus setup for the BBB. The user base is generous and collaborative, and folks are continuing to refine their BBB-based appliances. My system is down for moving right now, but when I get back to it I'll be working on testing the possibilities for simple FIR filters using the BBB's CPU. If those prove insufficient, I'll mess with running complex versions at the server level. The objective is to incorporate and evaluate the advantages of rePhase.

Frank, I got curious what this rePhase means, after reading thru that link, please correct me if I am wrong, that this is about correcting the shifting phase on multi driver speakers, am I right? if so, then I probably do not need it as I have single driver speakers. Crossovers on speakers and their anomaly are the basic reasons I always had single driver speakers. I would rather have the weaknesses of single drivers than the weaknesses of multidrivers speakers.

No.
It is actually a bit more substantial redesign than just that - I will post more details on the Cronus thread later. 🙂
The goal of Cronus Version 1.3 was mostly to improve the utility of the master clock output - but the changes in the design yield many more improvements. 🙂
It is a drop in replacement for existing Cronus - and you can re-use Rhea and Hermes modules etc.

It definitely is an improvement - especially if you run sync mode with the master clock from Cronus to the DAC.
The new version does a much better job of isolating the clock from the loads which results in optimal signal levels at all critical components.

It is. I hope you enjoy it. I am very pleased with it so far - running sync mode is now far more forgiving and the master clock is much stronger on the scope.

I am already extremely pleased with what I have right now (Amanero-Hermes-Cronus, dual mono DAC with tube I/V section), incredible sound, extremely clean, no trace of hardness, distortion, jitter, whatever you call it, extremely musical. So I will try this new Cronos, I am not sure what more it can do.

Correct. ...and my point was that the BBB with the botic kernel can perform a variety of useful processing tasks depending on the particular application and preferences of each user. It does have limitations, but many advantages as well.

Absolutely - it's an improved layout and the reclocking section makes nice benefit of the buffered clocks.

Requirements: 100FE or a GE network, wifi/bt welcomed, PCM384 / DSD256 or better ability in slave mode (external clock), mature drivers (mainline very welcomed). I'd go for a BBB, but I do have some doubts on rather humble CPU and memory, plus the driver is not open source. The SOC market is growing so fast so I must have missed a pearl or two.

Please accept my apologies for not having read all those 142 pages prior to posting dumb questions: there's really too much and somewhat irrelevant info. Maybe it's time for a simple faq list?..
I have some basic skills of pulling i2s bus out of a Cubietruck (A20) some years ago. Unfortunately I tore the mclk track trying to resolder it with my big iron those days, so this SBC is no more usable for audio. Fortunately I realized soon that 192k max and no DSD will not be sufficient for a good renderer.
Now, after some googling, I figured out that only a few platforms are suitable for top end audio rendering. One of them is BBB (BBG possibly?) with Botic kernel, another is good old Pi, and... mostly that's all. Or not?

IMHO, you have not missed any pearls. Most diyers seem satisfied with the options now available, though a few of us are interested in pushing the BBB to its limits. When an upgraded CPU comes out on a beagle-compatible board I will be all over it. Until then, I'm grateful for the fine efforts that have moved us ahead this far.
