The 70s will do that to ya. 🙂 The early 70s, that is. Everything was going along just fine until The Scourge of Disco was visited upon the earth.
And another thing about that: Not only did the early 70s have some great music, but also featured were some of the shortest skirts of the entire century!! Remember that, guys? Because I sure as hell do! But then what should happen along but Disco, with its midi this and maxi that, and pants suits - pants suits, for god's sake - and all those lovely legs were gone, virtually overnight.
F#@%ing Disco, man. Grrr!!
<sigh> OK, I think I'm done now. I think.

I don't particularly associate long skirts with Disco, Jim. Rather the opposite, like Abba's outfits. Disco was where you met women, and what's wrong with that? Saturday Night Fever still sounds good, IMO.
Anyway, there were no women whatsoever at the Prog Rock concerts. Mostly the greatcoats and Mandies brigade. With wild hair and beards. Exclusively male pursuit IIRC.
Hunter S Thompson said: "I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me." 😀
He also said, and you'll like this: "I feel the same way about disco as I do about herpes."
These days I think drugs are just a way of shutting stuff out. I prefer Scotch. There are better paths to well-being. Try remembering back to when you were ten years old, with not a worry in the world and living in the present, it'll put a smile on your face. And you actually start feeling that good too. It's called cognitive therapy, and it works.

Umm.. Hello? C2H5OH = oldest recreational drug on the planet? Or did I miss a wink there?

But I was deeply enjoying music long before I did drugs. I think I'm going back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t68Qqjc3Qxw

Here in Tennessee you will be doing years of hard corporate labor for
CCA (correction corp. of amerika) , for having even the smallest quantity
of cannabis.
Unfortunate , I actually smoked for the Badger and Slewmaster in NY.
Designed while high , listened to while straight.
I get to "anal" in my critique of sound system weaknesses while in
a "cannabis state". Either mental compression or expansion (depending
on grade of weed).
Of the Indica varieties , a massive range of effects can be had.
Then there is the (hemp) .. tall sativa , sometimes in a hybrid with
select indica - to get "Jamaican". a "generic" effect.
But, all this is history .... here in the south , weed smokers are
damned souls.

Same here, you can drink your self to death, but nobody will say the alcohol is drugs. F...ing propaganda... 😡

Yup.
Smoking a plant that grows wild is a crime, but drinking a processed liquid is ok
🙄
Same here
Overhere, sale of alcoholics and cigarettes to individuals under 18 is forbidden.
In the meantime, 14 year old girls binge themselves into a coma or offer a shag in exchange for a beer.
My g/f's son has been buying his friends beer since age 15, for a profit, with help of his older brothers ID.

The non-weed smokin' "blessed souls" just legalized microbreweries and even
75% alcohol moonshine here.
I would say the 75% would kill you quicker than any plant could ??
PS - walk the "strip" in Gatlinburg , TN and you will be offered 7 free shots (50%)
at 3 different distilleries (21 total - if you want). While all this is happening ,
the children are all running around watching their parents get " bombed out" ??
The Ultimate hypocrisy.... all about $$$$ 😡 .

(was the favorite challenge in my young years)
An overclocked processor gives you more performance as long as you don't fry it. Humans, after frying main processor, are still able to live and communicate (sort of). Plenty of examples. Sometimes nobody notices the difference.
I believe all the effort my brain had to do to fool parents and teachers while being completely stoned has paid off: after enduring that hardship it now feels stronger, faster and more flexible.

I tried my best to avoid using the "D" word, but someone had to do it, so....
I worked at Motorola for 41 years. I got hired as a factory test and tune technician on the HT220 radio product. I was hired in November for a January 6 1973 start date. I told all my druggie friends that I had got a real respectable job and would be avoiding drugs for a while......
On my first day of the new job it was explained that the cafeteria food sucked, and they all went to Burger King for lunch, did I want to join them. On the drive to BK someone said "you DO smoke, don't you" and a joint was passed around......that began about 17 years of daily weed smoking. I would guess that at least 80% of the people in the place smoked weed, and 30 to 50% did so at work. There were pill freaks, acid heads, and others, but little Cocaine use.....until Disco came.
Disco brought the big divide. The Holiday Inn across the street ripped out the restaurant and installed the Mirage, a disco bar. The Disco crowd were into Cocaine, while the rockers smoked weed. The two groups did not associate with each other. The disco crowd wore $100 polyester shirts, and looked down on the rockers in jeans and T-shirts. They were "better than us."
My future ex-wife went to the dark side....She switched from Peter Frampton to ABBA overnight. This new little company down the road invented a new kind of computer and started hiring massively in the late 70's. Most of the disco crowd left Motorola and went to IBM restoring the balance of musical power in the Motorola plant. The Mirage closed in the 80's, and the Holiday Inn is gone now too.
The future EX became the EX about the same time that the PC was launched on the world. IBM packed up and left Florida in the early 90's. The plant where the PC was born that employed 10,000 people is now the Blue Lake Office Park. The Motorola plant that employed 5,000 is headed in the same direction. There are maybe 400 people left there.
Disco...is not music. it is a virus that invades your stereo system........It converts the listeners to a different lifestyle filled with fancy clothes, BMW's and debt!

We are and we know how to dance without using our necks!!!!

What I've heard of Dream Theater hasn't really stuck with me for some reason, but I do love ELP, so this sounds interesting.
Dream Theater never resonated with me either, but Jordan Rudess is a most excellent keyboard player. Check this out. It sounds like an hour spent with keyboards and computer, but mixes original work with the classics, including Yes, ELP and King Crimson

I don't do disco anymore and, yeah, there's a lot wrong with disco culture but rockers looked like troglodytes so I had no choice. I have to say most rockers are really good guys, thing which can't be said about dancers. This I can tell after knowing prominent members of each clan throughout the years.

Phil Collins is like Hitler. Mention him in an argument and you automatically lose.
The best way to cope with the mushroom taste is to use the water to make instant mushroom soup rather than trying to cover it up with some thing else.
Better to have a very mushroomy cream of mushroom soup than mushroomy grape Kool Aid.
Say who. Meant to add in my 1st reply. The far and away winner is Peanut Butter. PBJ (hold the J) was supreme to all alternatives

Aaaagh!!!
Ignoring for the moment the thetan-addled gargoyle on the right, what else is wrong with this picture? Yes, it's a maxi dress. Just look at that thing - you could sail a boat with it, for crying out loud. And what's that in the background?? Why, it's a midi dress, of course!! I rest my case. 😡
