Some of them might be workable for a flea-watt amp. It really comes down to what one expects for one's money. When I'm paying top dollar, I like to get the whole horse.
Actually it's hard to say, the 2SK182ES curve I showed was spaced by 0.25V apart. For the same dataset, if I space them by 1V apart (just by remove some curves in betweem), it gives the attached.
Now it looks pretty much like the bad curve Michael has shown ..... 🙁

Yes, you are seeing my point. And, this is the "good" region. Yet, you can already see how the drain resistance is creeping up. If you could extend the voltage they will likely start to look like the photo.

To give a frame of reference at similar scale, look at my original 2SK82 curves from ages ago. See how the drain resistance is nice and consistent keeping the traces fairly parallel?

Three or four times I nearly ordered some......but I still have to build my SK180 amp, so I hesitated.
I hope that in April I can report about my SK180 build with 45R drain resistance and around
80-80V PSU.

really a pity for you, these SK182 look so heavenly and the possibility to mount them easily on normal heatsinks and their higher gain……..

It seems that most of the "good" devices we have seen are old, used and/or abused. Do these devices require a burn in period of some sort? Was it done at the factory on early devices or on a spot check basis? How would time spent at high voltage, current, frequency or temperature affect their curves?
It's more likely that some rejects have escaped.
These wouldn't even be marginally useful in some of their intended applications.

Semiconductors industry in Japan have very strict control quality. Its some national pride.
Logic say they controls are made at every step of production, transistors are marked
with brand logo and batch number and was put in box after controls at the end.
Rejected ones never see any box imho.
Its strange to have all not well working same batch & individual numbers
It was stored in clean & dry environement.
This seller send me paper box with and is smell lightly like old book.
Tokins are transistors tanks its incredible if all of my 5 are not in specifications
and all others diyers sit's from the same source.
No one ? That mystery ?
