BTW very nice editorial

How about sandalwood? it might smell better too 😉
Not with socks on.
Did you take a look at SYs article? He stated his wife also heard differences and she noticed a difference without knowing exactly why. Is she wrong? Maybe but again, so what?

iamdarren73,
I was one of those guys. You don't know how many untold hours and dollars (and years going back to '86) I spent improving my equipment based on what I read (e.g. exotic caps in certain places, etc.) and doing that for others.
We would get all jazzed and excited and it was even a bit of a party after the equipment was down for a few weeks to finally get together and listen to the 'enhancement' I made. Ooohs and Aaaaahs abounded. I was applauded for my tweaks. Fast forward a few months and it was hard to really notice a difference at all, or it even sounded worse! Before I joined diyAudio, I can maybe count one tweak that really, truly worked, and that was recommended by Walt Jung.
My cousin returned his receiver to me for repair. I had tweaked it and boy, with what I know now, it was garbage inside. So a few months ago, I worked on it for a few weeks and ripped out almost all of the tweaks, getting it as close to factory spec as possible but adding better electrolytics and resistors. And you know what? He said it finally sounds close to how it did out of the box. He listens to it all the time now. Before, he just wasn't happy after the initial few weeks after tweaking. I spent about $35 total for the repair and cleanup.
BTW, my wife can hear absolutely no improvement in my system AT ALL. Should I discount what she says? 😀 The one thing I know, she sure did enjoy hearing SY's system.
Anyone can believe what they want to believe re. wood blocks, I suppose, but from a sonic perspective and money perspective, I've learned to temper my enthusiasm and avoid marketing materials and myths that have been out there for many, many, many years. It's worked out a whole lot better for me on many levels.

right on DarrenAll of my cables and much of my system is DIY, including the cable lifters. As I said before, I did not make/use the lifters for sonic improvements but aesthetics. But who cares? If YOU feel it improves the sound, that is all that matters.
I really chaps my **** when all the 'experts' jump in and tell someone their efforts and experiences are BS they should simple 'buy a microphone' or 'stop fooling themselves'. So what if that is the case? It isn't your money or system and I am fairly certain the OP did not ask for your permission to use the cable lifters. He expressed HIS personal experiences and asked if others might have experienced similar results. Is he off-base and totally wrong? NOT AT ALL because the system is HIS and the results are based on HIS listening experiences.
Why all the hate for cable lifters? He stated his wife also heard differences and she noticed a difference without knowing exactly why. Is she wrong? Maybe but again, so what?

if none of you wish to try it, don't! i do not care. debate on audio has been back and forth since the get go and will most likely go on after we all are gone.
my friend next door knows i'm a audio nut case and always asks me what is new. he is here now for a listen to his most loved track ( angus & julia stone draw your swords). he knows my system and how my room is treated. what he does not know is the lifters as this room is listened to mostly dark.
straight away what he hears is a deeper echo effect in that track. making the back wall sound as if it's 100 feet back. or the room walls vanish.
in a nut shell who am i to say he can't hear what he hears
all you need to do is remove a diffuser panel if you have them and see how it sounds.
i would guess that in the early years of acoustic panels people called them snake oil as well.
but really i'm a skeptic and i too called this very thing hog wash.
the other night i was so shocked and puzzled that it caused me to tell you and ask how is it possible.
i don'y have a clue as to why but they will stay as a part of my room.
guys the only reason i have big buck furutech power cables is the look.
my room has the speakers with my mono blocks at the base of each speaker.
when you walk into my room you can see the power cables, rca and speaker cable. this just looks killer as i can see it from my chair.
i use mogami cable every where for rca and speaker. good low dollar cables.
i'll post some pictures when i can
means a lot to hear every idea pro or con
keep them coming guys

The lifters are nothing more than a complete waste of money in my opinion. Same as the very high priced speaker cables, although to be fair on the cables you may hear a 1% improvement
Well, only if you use Sugar Maple. Hard Maple will give you a different effect.
Sugar maple = hard maple 😉
If it's change one wants because one has become dissatisfied with the sound their system produces use a quality 31 band graphic equalizer for each channel and you can tweak away at your heart's content.
No one then can argue with you that you can hear a difference or even an improvement over what you have become accustomed to.
Messing with cable elevators and other dodgy products will invariably end with another upgrade and so on. Get something that is a real tweaking tool.......a 31 band graphic equalizer.....and a measurement microphone/software to boot.

I shall trash my engineering degree that is hanging on the wall due is retelling when I play music at high levels.
Your engineering degree must be emitting negative objective waves which affect the sound quality... you need a negative wave absorber 😀

You'd guess wrong.

Oh god , pls buy a measure microphone instead of stuff for under ur cable stop fooling urself. Measure it. At least you end up with a usefull tool. For further forms of ripoff stuff. I noticed also the expensive power cables for a power amp....
Hey, buy a microphone!!!
And a graphic/parametric equalizer

😛
Did you take a look at SYs article?
Where can I find this article?
Thanks!

Personally I very much prefer a few bands of parametric eq to graphics.
Fewer bands but so much more to twiddle in each.
Plastic reinforcing bar chairs.

Cheap, effective and easily available in quantity.
Ime system sound with suspended cable is different to system sound with cable on carpet.
Dan.
I don't have carpet is that why I heard no difference?
Scott... No, the problem is probably the inverse polynomial factor of the dielectric constant of the material that the cable lifters are molded from, interacting with the skin effect smearing inherent in all conductors not made from "27 nines" non-crystal copper.
🙂
Or it's just that hat you are wearing in the photo... It seems to be covering your ears.

Only good protecting during an acoustic fall-out, sorry. Bad example.😱 Now tin oil ear-buds on the other hand....Tin foil hats, anyone???.....
