Hi Pinnocchio I have the weiliang 2 x ak4399 + ak4118 + hdam and I have the jlsound ak4396 + reclock option and upgraded double linear psu. In my case the cost to make jlosund dac is triple then the finisced weiliang.
But I like a little bit more the ak4399, I use the coax input in ak4399, the usb is bad in the weiliang dac.

Weiliang AK4399 do not supports DSD..
I had his AK4399_XMOS combination that ended in the trash..

What version? Ak4118?Weiliang AK4399 do not supports DSD..

Why mine sound so good?
I use good combination headphone amp + hd800.
To get out the best from ak4399 I use the jlsound xmos to coax. Yes ok no dsd.

Not this one, I had AK4399_XMOS on same board..
Anyway, problem with drivers is for every Chinese XMOS product, also do not have support for DSD..
Sound of this Chinese products can not be compared with jlsounds XMOS_AK4396 combination.. this is HiEnd product in technical terms, Chinese use the same or even more advanced chips but their implementation is very poor..

Yes I agree for xmos usb jlsound, it is high end product, not agree for the Pinnocchio comment in weiliang dac ak4399 vs the jlsound ak4396, just my opinion I Iike more the sound ak4118 ak4399 chinese board.
Xmos jlsound is fantastic.
Ot end

Go to I2S over USB Audio - Home..
Read about XMOS and AK4396 and you will see many things that chinese cloners do not know..

Hi Keres,
I have the dual AK4399 + 4118 and something is not totally right with it, yes it does sound pretty good but to me, pretty good does not cut it, especially not with the level of sound I'm used to with my other DACs.
It's ok you disagree with me, everyone has their own opinion and taste and I have nothing to say against this, it really is a personal opinion.
Ciao!

Hi,
There will be definitely a new AK4490 DAC.
For a pity this is true and led to a delay.
But the opportunity which Mister Rogers gave me to work with a DAC, which I can't find anywhere, moreover the top one (for now) of Asahi Kasei DACs, on which I can't hide my passion, regarding their delta-sigma DACs, "pre-decided" on which project I want to work.
I have to tell you that significant part of the work on AK4490 is done.
I'll appreciate if you share how to be realized - for example: directly differential outputs to be on a pinheader and everyone to finish it or with embedded filters?
Thank you all for your good feedback 🙂
After the test and when the AK4495S dual mono is ready for production, we will open a new thread in commercial sector.
Regards,
Joro
Joro,
Are you planning a new dac like AK4490 (single or dual) or anything else? that we could mate with your Xmos board? I already have the AK4396 and it really is good but would like to eventually see something that can output a full 2-2.5V.
Ciao!

J&L announced the board with AK4490, which was supposed to be ready by Christmas, this project with the AK4495 is obviously led to delays..

It would be best to do both.. If not possible second option is better..I have to tell you that significant part of the work on AK4490 is done.

I really like how is solved analog output on AK4396 board.. many people bothers lower voltage, but to me it seems like a practical solution.. ideal to finally use somewhere LT1818..

I have yet to try the DAC with the LT1818 but can you describe the sound difference a little?
Thanks

See datasheet for LME49710 and LT1818, second one is dramatically better..
Also, do not like to use opamp for which there is no schematic..

Hi Joro,
Is there a possibility to replace the existing ExpressO oscillators for the NDK NZ2520SD 3.3V ones?
Thanks,
Baka

Good news.
ak4490 seems a good DAC, specially with DSD.

Could you show me what parameters are you talking about?
I only see a great distance in Slew Rate (4500V vs 20V per usecond)
400Mhz vs 55MHz..
For LME49710 we do not have two important fact in pdf.. schematic and gain and phase vs frequency diagram.. both are great at LT1818..

Is there any progress..There will be definitely a new AK4490 DAC..
Hi,
According to the calculations that Lyuben made, I'll have NDK oscillator in the beginning of April, transition PCB boards are already ordered.
Progress ...
I'll inform you when the DAC is ready.
