Ideas for a big, bad, high-efficiency man-cave sound system

Like this thread....more and more surealistic... and like often with all open talk process we will beam to more focused exchanges step by step and come back to surrealistic !
So let not waste such inputs....
Give me such a system and the Valley with it 😱 ! Near Las Vegas... because Red is beautifull (on the photographs... have to see it before die... sorry before diy !)!
Let be narcissic : a hifi system like that, a valley to listen it, a lovely wife/husband, a dog, a cat also.... a car to make the shopping meals .... what to ask more... some friends and many artists to make music and good hifi systems.... some caves to have a rest !

If we're going to be realistic, a couple of Econowaves and a single tapped horn sub would probably be a great man cave system.

Sure they would. So would a pair of Gedlee speakers and multiple subs. I can attest to that by direct experience.
But if one has the space, time and budget and patience, there are even more satisfying systems to be built.
Design a speaker using 2 x 18sound NSD1095N 1” compression drivers on the 2 x Denovo 12” OS elliptical waveguides
Sell the 2 x Audax PR170M0 6.5” midrange, 2 x Beyma 5G40Nd 5” midrange, 2 x Galaxy Audio 4” wide range drivers and 2 x stereolab 1000hz tractrix horns.
Buy good 10-12" drivers for 1.1k to 100hz. (12" driver match 12" exit of Denovo with xover at 1.1k for 12"wavelength)
Use the eminince lab 12 sub in a sub in a Pi Speakers plans for a subwoofer that uses a 12" woofer in a bass-reflex cabinet tuned to 20Hz
Stick the 15" Eton in a separate enclosure for 2 subs total.
I've had 2 Edgar tractrix horns and OS is much better to my ears.
Have fun with the process!

Tractrix has echoes to my ears (other horns can be worse). Not as clean and clear sounding as OS. Nothing is perfect.
Just my subject experience.

Would like to listen to Joy Division or The Velvet Underground witrh such a system ! With a trully sound of cave 🙂 ! Maybe the Stooges after a rest (of my ears I mean) or.... the (final) Cure !

From that list I would say start with:
- 18sound NSD1095N 1” compression drivers on the Denovo 12” OS elliptical waveguides
- Audax PR170M0 6.5” midrange
- Etone 1525 15” woofers
Given a choice, I'd go with a bigger midrange, but the 6.5 could do just fine.
Then sell the leftovers and buy 2 more woofers. Dual 15" woofer setups work very well. They move a lot of air with very little effort.
My wife calls it a man cave.

Tom Danley builds a synergy technology speaker that is as big as a cave, and appears to have good wife appeal 🙂 I bet it sounds superior to the old "wall of speakers" designs.
When you sketch out speaker placement in your listening room you should look at the polar radiation pattern and listener coverage area for both a 90x40 horn and a 60x40 horn. Sometimes a 60x40 polar pattern removes enough side wall sound reflections in a small'ish cave to improve clarity without extensive wall absorption materials.
If your future plans include low power DIY amplifiers, a 12" midbass and higher efficiency 18" woofer could be worth purchase consideration. Simulate room bass gain into your designs.
I wish I could hear your 18sound NSD1095N 1” compression .... impressive TiN diaphragm coating technology. The factory data suggests a 12db slope Xover at 1600Hz for safe full power, but for low power home use you will want to experiment with 1200Hz_up LR4 or BW3 slopes. The NSD1095N does not look like a good choice for 700-800Hz Xover as common in 2-way designs. Can you pull out a knife and whittle a horn like Sheenin? A thing of beauty!

Earl - next time you're in that area, try shoehorning in a visit to (the independent republic 😀 of ) Vancouver Island - on a clear day the 360dg views from the top of Mount Doug, Bear Mountain, or Mt Washington are breathtaking, and there's a few nice spots on both coasts as well.
As to the man-cave system thing - while our individual approaches might be different, I couldn't be more in agreement with you in general.
OK, I was simply reflecting on the thread title which has words like big and bad in the title. That's where my impression that this system was about horsepower.
Glad you enjoyed your visit. Sounds like the weather was good to you. When the sun shines, there are many smiles and much natural beauty to be seen. When it rains, there is lots 'o' grumpiness and you still pay a high price for so many things. I guess it's a give and take kind of city. Hope you visit again.
