Ideas for a big, bad, high-efficiency man-cave sound system

I have been given permission to take over the 6m x 6m double garage as a man cave. So I’m thinking it needs a big manly man system to match.

I have amassed quite of high efficiency drivers over the years, just not sure which direction to head in – 2 way, 3 way, open baffle etc the world is my oyster:

2 x 18sound NSD1095N 1” compression drivers
2 x stereolab 1000hz tractrix horns
2 x Denovo 12” OS elliptical waveguides
2 x Etone 1525 15” woofers
2 x Audax PR170M0 6.5” midrange
2 x Beyma 5G40Nd 5” midrange
2 x Galaxy Audio 4” wide range drivers

Have a couple of minidsp modules, and few class D amps laying around.

Would also consider buying other drivers if necessary but thinking I should be able to make something quite decent out of the above.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Was thinking 3 way with conical horn for the audax or beyma but with 300hz crossover point it would be quite huge. Tractrix would be better but a little more complex to build.

Wonder how the low those 18 sound comp drivers can go with the denovo waveguide. Would be nice to get under 1khz for a 2 way.

If I wanted "man cave crazy" speakers I would follow POOH's Stargate 6 Horn System thread

===========
If I wanted "man cave generic" speakers I would acknowledge the long success of the JBL 3-way studio monitors:

18sound NSD1095N 1” compression drivers
Denovo 12” OS elliptical waveguides
LR4 at 1,200Hz to a high efficiency 10" midbass

Lambda TD10M, Faital 10PR300, JBL 2012H, Eminence KapaLite 3010H,
LR4 at 100Hz to

Etone 1525 15” woofers
you can decide between efficiency of ported, vs. MiniDSP equalization flexibility

Well, you'll need "real" amplification.
That class D stuff is not going to cut the mustard, especially on HF drivers.
Probably ok for bass.

Start with what you have. Pay attention to the space, treat the room correctly. Spending a lot of money is not required.

Keep the scorpions, snakes and crocs OUT.

So build up some relatively low power amps for ur compression driver(s) and horns, stick something appropriate under them, play... listen. Invite some other blokes over, enjoy.

It's always a work in progress.

Figure out how ur going to make the roof higher, and extend it back about double the length... that ought to keep you busy for a bit?

never a more true word spoken 🙂

So many options. Thanks for all the links and ideas. Lots to ponder.

I will be treating the room - super chunk bass traps in the corners and broad band absorption is on the cards.

PeteMac, I havent tried the etones yet. I have seen measurments and they look pretty decent, even distortion seems good enough to 2k.

Also forgot that I had a eminince lab 12 sub, which i could build a tapped horn for. Theres enough for it in the man cave, so may as well use it.

18 sound drivers go on to the horn for some measurements this weekend - stay tuned...
