Is the "Prisoner" on your list? And you must have the complete "I Love Lucy" and the "Honeymooners". This could get pretty silly.

Can you build more? With the popularity of mid-century I could see them in museums across the world. And for total absurdity run loops of "Madmen" on it. The essence of American culture.

I now know 🙂, that the magic is called stakeless earth testing.
The clamp on head has two coils...one induces current into an earth conductor, and the second coil measures the induced current, the smarts works out the effective loop resistance of the circuit under test.
Might be useful for identifying ''Pin 1"' problems.
Megger DET14C - APPLICATION NOTE is a good primer.

Dan.

You took the magic away 🙁 Nice explanation from Megger, though.
I also have the Stake type ground R tester. A slightly different test..... less magic.

Harlan Ellison wrote an interesting story about such a TV in the possession of
a child. Of course it wasn't the TV that was doing the trick...

I started to say nice story but I wouldn't want to give the wrong impression
about Ellison's approach to stories.

😎

Correction: Google had it Jeffty Is Five - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
and it was a radio.

Actually, Nelson, when you think about, Harlan Ellison wrote quite a collection of very interesting stories.

As did Theodore Sturgeon and Alfred Bester - try reading, if you haven't already, Alfred Bester's books "The Demolished Man" and "Extro". Sort of two parts of the same story.

I learned my English from those guys. Learned my English porn from P.J. Farmer 😉

You know, I wonder, Jan.

Each age stage I went thorough left something behind, but brought along something new. The only regrets I have are some stupid mistakes I made when I should have known better, and I have only myself to blame.

Perahps the greatest boon age brings along is experience. You know, the thing your parents told you and you thought they were off their rocker because youd didn't have their experience, but think differently now. I believe we all do it, admitting it or not.

Some things they did I still think today were bad decisions, either on a philosophical level, or on a very real level. As I type this, I live on ground zero of a construction site, I have builders all over the place. One of the things they are doing is exchaning the entire apartment wiring. I discovered that my outlets have no ground connectio at all, no third wire, just + and -. Next, I discovered that my in wall wiring uses 1 mm sq wires only, totally against all possible building codes. And to make matters worse, the isolation of that wiring has started to "sweat", the plastic are decomposing and letting off an oily susbtance. In short, I am sitting on a truly drastic fire hazard.

My building is probably the only building ever built in Belgrade that was finished 3 months ahead of schedule. Somebody very high up must have banged his fist on a table and said that if that was not so, heads would roll. That was in 1961, just before the founding meeting of the non aligned countries' movement was held in Belgrade, in September 1961. At the time, Belgrade had a mad shortage of hotels, so this apartment building was used as a temporary hotel forthe journalists. My apartment was occupied by Japanese journalist, and believe it or not, but the first thing those men did was to buy broom. It was left in pristine condition, other tenants were far from being tha lucky. So I'm guessing the builders grabbed any piece of wiring they could get their hands on, hence poor wiring.

Abnd even if it were not so, still the wiring would have to be changed, because everything has a life span and eventually gives up the ghost; thin wiring is one thing, but "sweating" is no less dangerous.

20 years ago, I would have cussed and sworn and probably gone looking for the man who signed the building code permit. Today, I take it as it is, a problem I need to deal with. I will change each and every inch of that wiring, and will not use the usual 1.5 mm sq wiring for standard outlets, but am and will use 2.5 mm sq wiring. Today, at my age, I take things with a cooler head, mellow if you like.

"The Prisoner" is rather new. What about the "lost" shows for which the originals seem to be gone and only partially survive as worn out 16mm film (the way local stations got them, video tape was too expensive or non-existent). Garner McKay's "Adventures in Paradise", "The Islanders", many more.

Actually the one I wanted but isn't around is "Children's Corner" with Josey Carey and assisted by Fred Rogers. I also would have included Zorro with Guy Madison but as a Disney program it was more than $100 for two seasons. (same for Davy Crockett etc.) About the same price for all of Perry Mason.
