Will this be a taller cabinet like the TH18 or what will the cabinet dimensions look like?

OP states:
"My initial estimates for dimensions was 30wx48dx21.5h external, with 3/4 ply. I would not be oppossed to 16.5 tall either, using 15" wide pieces of 5x5 ply makes for good sheet efficiency, and would make this easy to slide under stages, or stack into an 8 driver behemoth."

Which DSL 2x12" were you trying to figure out?

I guess it was the TH212 Art. As I have always liked the look of the TH412 but figured the 212 was just half of that. Now Sine143 is building this one so I am curious again about building a dual or quad 12 design also. I am not the biggest fan of the 45 depth on the 412 but if your going to stack multiples that makes sense.

For me it has never been a need but just a want. I keep building TH's and always want more. Just need to stop wasting money and build an extremely efficient design with huge spl. Then I can move on to tops.

I'm not a fan of a 45" depth either, but the TH-212 comes in three versions, one was 18" deep x 60 x 60, the TH-212T was 30 inches deep x 38 x 28, and another TH-212 is 36" deep x 15 x 36.

None of them are like the TH-412 in layout.

honestly, I dont think this horn will end up physically mimicing ANY of the danley tapped horns, although I am shooting for similar sensitivity, and hopefully higher power handling ( I believe the danley pro sound THs with 12s use the tbx100 or the ps100).

the layout is still very much in the air, but for the 35hz TH, I'd like to have similar outside dimensions to the TH18 if possible (maybe a bit shorter, or a bit slimmer if possible). I will not be using a fold that even slightly resembles the TH18 or the SS15 If I can help it.

it would end up either being 18" wide (15" internal, out of 5x5 stock), 19.5 (18" internal, 4x8 stock), or 21.5" (20" wide internal, 5x5 stock).

60x60x18 Is almost 1800 liters, enough room for almost 8 12s in the 30hz configuration. unfortunatly there would be no way to mount 8 12s in an 18" wide cabinet (that I can think of). 30 x 60 x 18 would fit 4 12s though 😛 (theoretically)

60x60x26 would be good for me. 😀 But yes 30x60x18 would be fine also. But then again I dont need a TH812. lol It would take me about a year to get the 8 12's. Also I can only use 4x8 sheets of plywood because BB is too expensive. I have built my other TH's out of AA Marine Ply and that stuff is VERY strong. Love the smell also. And the price is a LOT cheaper than BB. Expensive at 120 a sheet but less than BB which is much more.

Anyways I think I will stop talking now. Getting all excited about a dual 12/quad 12 and larger design has me posting to much. So I will keep to my popcorn and watch this unravel. 😀 And sensitivity and SPL are my goals. Something similar to a Danley size would be good. Only so I can budget for wood is all. Anyways popcorn awaits.

Sine143 are you able to achieve 100db sensitivity from 35hz and up and most of your designs?

I have only been able to come up with 96db average and sometimes 97db. BUT I cant get the SPL your able to achieve. Do you already have the 1030's?

Curious if you have used them in other designs already.

not worth it to build it unless I can hit at least 98db in the passband (like the oth40c 15" loaded TH). depending on how large the enclosure is, this may be 35hz low corner or higher, (like the oth40c).

Otherwise I'd just build vented due to the much smaller size.

I just put in an inquiry for pricing on 24 of the 12hp1030 and 24 of the 12hp1060 to see what pricing will be like direct from faital.

Will they charge for shipping?

Thats the biggest killer for me I think. I will have to check out the shipping quotes again and see what the difference is. They may end up being the very same SRP delivered to me when including shipping. Or maybe not. I think I remember 12's costing about 80 dollars each for shipping. BUT that may be cheaper when ordering a pair, I dont recall.

And will you only be doing the dual 12 design or do you have any plans on a quad design?

well... depending on the style of fold I go with, it may be easy to addapt the design into a quad cb by just mirror imaging the first cab and building it into a single box. I would only do that for install situations. mobile I would go dual 12 only.

Makes sense to me. After putting a few scrap pieces to the side and seeing how big a 60 x 60" board was I think I will still with 48x48 being the largest I will ever build. That 60x60 is way to big.

BUT depending on prices I may just try and see about taking a stab at a quad build on casters. We'll just see how your dual performs first.:spin:

hehe.

well it will be a bit of a ways out. I thought about the fold for a minute last night before I could fall asleep... I think I have an interesting idea but we'll se eif its possible (not a very traditional fold to say the least).

so I sketched up a little concept drawing of a fold style I think might work for either of the 2 revisions. 40h x 30d x 21w (external). this drawing is in no way tailored to fit any sim yet... just me thinking about HOW I could fold it. I should be able to fit 400 plus CM into this fold as shown....

This is a really cool fold - truly out of the box and out of the 2d plane! Kind of tricky to model as there are 3d turns. Are you achieving longer path by doing this as opposed to a regular 2d fold?
