Shigaclone MKII Black - The builders Thread

Thanks Erik. 🙂
Is 0.01uf enough? Tibi recommends 0.1uF...

Regards

Turbon,

Shiga MKII wil work fine with 0.01uF, however I recommend 0.1uF to be on the safe part. With 0.01uF sound is wonderful but thing become a little unstable on low reflection, low quality CD-RW's.
On other hand compared with few other 0.01uF caps (Hovland, Multicap, Clarity) 0.1uF Mundorf EVO silver-gold-oil is a clear winner. It is fast, detailed, dynamic and very musical presenting full instrument body.
To my ears 0.1uF Copper Cast-PIO Duelund is a little slower, while extremely musical, but speed impact is somehow lost.
The silver Cast-PIO Duelund may be a clear winner, but so far the best price compromise is Mundorf EVO SGO.

Regrads,
Tibi

Unstable....
I cannot confirm nor deny this...since I only play original cds. 😀

I have quite a selection (3000 originals) and the ones I played so far ( last 6 years) were all played without misreadings, skipping etc.

Making use of 0.01 uF on C906 the last 5000 hours plus....

On the other hand who wants to listen to low quality CD-RW's with a transport like that......but that is another matter 😉

Edit...I am lying. There was one that was Oceana from Till Brunner...that reminds me to buy a new one tonight....lol...

Erik,

From my point of view Shiga MKII must read any CD, good or bad, otherwise I get angry DIY-ers ... 😉

CD-RW are the worst CD's you can use for music reproduction. Their reflection is only 10-25% from a good quality pressed CD. Therefore Shiga will increase gain in order to read CD-RW. Increasing gain by an amount ~10 may lead to oscillations and tracking loss when C8/C906 is very low. Due very good PCB layout, Shiga MKII have even a higher gain and remain stable on any CD-RW. This will not happen with original JVC.

A CD-R, depending on his quality may have between 40% to 70% reflection, compared with a pressed CD.
I also consider that is a sacrilege to use Shiga on copied CD's.
Due poor reflection indices a copied CD, CD-R or CD-RW, will never sound like an original CD.

Found all my minireg without led and two R.

LED draw extra current and was removed.
Pcb can accommodate fixed and adjustable regulator chip, depending on this there is one resistor more or less.
