why papa doesnt choose lateral mosfets what makes him to choose irfs? very confused about this...😕
in 10 years or so , you'll know the answer
let's just mention lateral thinking , besides several other factors

But still plentiful at least in eastern - south eastern part of Asia. About $6 for K1058/J162 pair in Jakarta, no online store though.
i am going to speculate that those are not laterals np is referring to..... these have been around in some form or the other since the early 80's at least.
If they haven't yet shown up in a np project, one would guess that they are not going to.

I totally disagree with your reasoning on this one Kasey, the commercial SITs are already out of production since the early 80's, but when was the first NP SIT related article came up? I don't think your bait will be effective. 😉
Mr. Pass did mention recently that he has some F5 using laterals:

The exact laterals were not specified so the speculation continues ...

Laterals have lower transconductance than verticals. They are also less robust.
But they are wonderful when it comes to thermal issues.

So that you don't have to speculate needlessly, I have a nice selection of
laterals, dating back to early Hitachi parts. Most recently I have acquired a
stock of Alfet parts: ALF08N16V ALF08P16V
😎

Was on the verge of buying a few of those interesting EPC parts.
I recall that they were discussed a few years ago.
Did you ever try them ?

Less transconductance for sure, but pretty darn robust .
I would say (in my own limited (but substantial))
experience harder to destroy than IRF types ........

With a properly chosen gate resistor ( ~ 1 k Ohm )
the static is reduced
PLUS !
The integrated gate to source zeners
(weakest point)
are protected !
