i am going to speculate that those are not laterals np is referring to..... these have been around in some form or the other since the early 80's at least.
If they haven't yet shown up in a np project, one would guess that they are not going to.
 
I totally disagree with your reasoning on this one Kasey, the commercial SITs are already out of production since the early 80's, but when was the first NP SIT related article came up? I don't think your bait will be effective. 😉
 
I am not aware that they are more robust as such, but the lower tempco and
transconductance will contribute to reliability in cases of inadequate design.

On the other hand, their lower capacitance makes them more vulnerable to static.

And even in cases of adequate design !

With a properly chosen gate resistor ( ~ 1 k Ohm )
the static is reduced
PLUS !
The integrated gate to source zeners
(weakest point)
are protected !
