I have a pair of these woofers and am looking for suitable kit to build. I propose a small sealed 2 way using either a higher end Scan or Seas tweeter
I have some designs which I have drawn up but wanted to compare these with work already done.
Are there any kits available based upon this woofer?
Thanks 🙂

For starters. I've got info on a design using the SB29 tweeter but the link is dead. Email me if you want data on that one.

I can't see any significant difference between the 15W/8531K00 and the 15W/8530K00 looking at the spec sheets.
Just a shiny coating on the 8530. So, yes, it looks quite easy. 🙂

Yes very little
Have finalised crossovers and will be building the cabinets which are a little bit bigger than an LS3/5a

Hi,
That seems way too small for the driver, are you sure ?
rgds, sreten.
A little bigger than LS3/5a is about 5 litre, gives a sealed alignment of Q=0.75 with no damping. F10 about 42 Hz.

Hi,
Well if the 15W/8531K00 and the 15W/8530K00 are near identical
Zaph uses a 0.5 cuft box, about 14L, way off the 5L of a LS3/5A.

In 14 litre the K00 has a Q=0.51 and an F10~33Hz. Also fine.
As i said, hard to get a sealed box wrong.

Hi,
No. According to Zaph the K00 driver has a Qts of 0.54,
Vas of 12L and Fs of 44Hz, a box of 14L has Qbox 0.75.
I have no idea what very wrong numbers you are using.

Hi,
Well Zaph has never been found to be wrong, and has shown
factory data to be very wrong. I don't know what driver is being
discussed but it seems uncoated and coated versions of the same
driver are in the frame. I'd trust Zaph over any factory data.

Do scan drivers take time to reach their factory parameters? Just seems a lot of independent tests show very different parameters
Remember T/S are not scalars.

This Scanspeak has similar TS parameters to Kef B110. Pratically same Fs around 30Hz, Qts around .3 and Vas around 20liters.
I also think that 5 liters would be ok, for a Qtc between 0.8 and 1.
F10 about 40hz, so F3 around 90hz, fine enough for me, but...🙄

Cms estimates vary a lot with the amplitude of the measurement signal. As shown by Jordan, all this T/S stuff is way too theoretical, as Zaph himselself, indeed...😀

I bet 5 liters do work with this, despite Zaph's measurement. 😛
Btw, i agree it's very hard to gat a wrong closed box, even with bad TS numbers.

I've got a couple of pairs of Scanspeak driver here and they all measure different to the Scanspeak datasheets. Mine are well run-in and always warmed up with pink noise before taking measurements. I have a WT2, WT3 and a DATS V2.
Just don't build the enclosure before buying the drivers because you'll most likely find out the box is too small.
