I picked up a pair of Wharfedale Valus 500s for USD$20 One of the (originally titanium dome) tweeters had been replaced with a paper tweeter roughly nailed (!) into place.Rather than try to match the original (no longer available) or try to find a new pair that matched specs (specs not available either) I went looking for something different. On eBay I found a pair of air
Heil air-motion transformers? I saw a pair on clist recently, the large ones and I am sort of intrigued.

Sorry, no. Ran across a problem with allowed time for editing posts and got cut off.
They were asking USD$49 a pair, I got their less then prepared for installation for $40 shipped.
I've be wanting the ESS drivers since they came out circa 1972. Although these aren't dipole, they do a fine job projecting, and complimentingn the Wharefdales.
Both ways, Valdus 500s, and discount Chinese AMT's, I made out> USD$60 and I had a neighbor from 3 houses down standing in my yard to listen.
Oh, and the wife came out of the bedroom to ask why I'd installed speakers in there. Through 2 rooms and a hallway into the bedroom -- now that is what I'd call some accurate projection.

As for bass, most other things that make me FEEL it are bass guitar four by's or folder horns. These things freaking KICK.

Nice touch the carbon fiber baffle inset.
......The steel driver screws a bit distracting though.

Thx 😉
The carbon is just fake though xD
The screws are white which i thought matched the cabinet, but maybe black scews would have been better..

@ DannerD3H, great design! They look fantastic! Interested in the carbon fibre 'look', is it the stuff you can get from car stores? Black screws would look better IMO, curious about them being rear firing bass reflex and so close to rear walls, don't they sound better further forward?
Thx 😀
Yes it is just regular vinyl with carbon look 😉
Yeah I considered it but I just liked the contrast of white screws 😛
As they are accompanied by that sub I don't really hear much difference. The reason they are that close is that it gave the most deep bas before I build the sub 🙂

Fair enough, you know what looks and sounds best for you 🙂
I've always found loudspeakers bass/imagining is better further away from rear wall but all scenarios are different
I considered carbon look vinyl and must say it looks great on your loudspeakers, will have to consider it again I think
Thx for sharing! 😀
