Daphile - Audiophile Music Server & Player OS

Thanks for the reply.

I've not tried http://Daphile.local as it wasn't in the instructions/pdf at the website, but will give it a try. If that doesn't work, I see what address my router has assigned and try that (Think I can do that :) )

Hi,

On iOS, OS X and Ubuntu Linux (also other Linux distros that use avahi/mDNS) http://daphile.local works the best.

On Windows I have experienced that http://daphile works but I'm not 100% sure whether Windows is using mDNS or does it get the DNS result from local router that has registered Daphile's DHCP request.

If neither is working one way to find Daphile's Web UI is that you go to File Manager and open the Daphile network drive and there is a Web link that should take you to Daphile Web UI.

Last option is to find out the IP address from your router.

will it work with Mac Mini?

I haven't heard if anyone has tried.

It could work on Intel based Mac Minis but it would definitely require expertise to get the boot configuration right. You would have to manually install rEFIt (rEFIt - An EFI Boot Menu and Toolkit), create DaphileBoot & DaphileData partitions, etc...

I don't have Mac Mini anymore and the above was just based on what I remembered it would require to get Linux running on it.

Let me know the result if you dare to try.

There is still one more option to try with Windows:

http://daphile.

The difference is the dot at the end.

I'm excited about being able to control my music laptop using Squeeze Commander on an android tablet. I've got it working except volume control has no effect in Daphile player. I don't see a vol control on Squeeze Commander.

What have i missed?

Thanks, Mack

Go to "Settings -> Audio Devices" and change the "Initial volume" setting of the soundcard to something else than "Control Off - BitPerfect playback".

Thanks Kipeta. I've tried selecting "Control On-Keep Previous Volume" and "Reset to Fixed" and restarting but the Volume slider does nothing.

If it matters, I'm using a HP 6470p to run Daphile from a usb stick.
An old Dell laptop to access Daphile wirelessly and a Galaxy Tab to run Squeeze Commander.
Is this problem also with the Volume control on Web UI ("Audio Player")?

Does your Daphile PC (HP 6470p) work as a Wifi access point for those other devices without having other network connection? Actually this kind of situation is having strange problem that volume control does not work. I haven't been able to solve it yet. In my case it (volume control) started to work as soon as Daphile PC was connected to home network with ethernet cable and continued to work even after it was disconnected. Does this sound the same problem?

It is the same problem.
I ran a long ethernet cable from my home router to the music room and plugged it into the Daphile laptop.
"Ready, use the web interface" displayed on the Daphile laptop.
The volume slider on the wirelessly connected Dell laptop UI worked!
A volume slider appeared in Squeeze Commander on the Galaxy Tab and was functional too!

I unplugged the cable and the volume sliders still work. Haven't tried a shut down/reboot yet.

Now, all I need is a nice theme for Squeeze Commander. I find it hard to navigate.

Thank you, Mack

Another satisfied tester

Congratulation KIPETA :)
Wonderfull computer HiFi reader

I've put the ISO on an USB 2Go Flash drive with the "unetbootin-windows-585.exe"
then I use this Flash drive on My Multimedia computer (Zalman 2core 1.2Ghz+3DD of 1Go).
I have 2 USB-DAC connected to this computer :1 E-MU202 and My Class A Amplifier with DAC connected with an M2Tec EVO ( SpDif ).
My two DAC are well recognized and my 3 Drive also.
I've tested the Web interface on an lenovo note book connected to my home network.
It takes about 10 min to recognize all my Music ( the info page is well for this)
Don' read files before this part finished.
After that it's easy to choice your album if the Tags are OK.
Personally all my albums are not well taged because I have many differents files: Waves, Flac, DVDA, CD DTS and ISO of SACD ....
Also the Folder page is OK for me Album or Artist are not so clear at that moment.

And now....What about the sound .... :)
Great , clear , natural the classical files are incredible with a big scene and lot area around the musiciens, even the shynthetic Music looks nice (Kraftwerk)
I've tested all wave and flac... from 16bits to 192kHz with sucess.
I've succed with DSD,DFF,and DXD files from A2L.
Some DVDA iso work's well but the name of the files don't appear on the right page ?
Just SACD and RIP of Blue Ray  don't work (SACD are ISO files and Blue Ray with all the folders). All the DTS files don't works.
Maybe you could do something in the future ?

Many thanks Kipeta :)

Before I used Win7 +Foobar and JRIVER.
But your methode is simple clear and savety.
For me Daphile is better
I just start to test squeeze commander on my Galaxy Mega.... it's seem to be OK

Merry Christmas and Happy new Year
Sorry for my english.....

Have Daphile running on my Intel D510m mini itx pc.
I'm using the onboard audio at the moment, as I need to get some bits sorted for my amanero/Buffalo DAC.

Playing music file stored on a local SSD. Not really in a position to comment on SQ as using on board audio, but the ease of use and the great looking webUI are excellent, as are the pre-loaded radio stations.

Nice work, Kipeta, think you should add a 'donations' button to your website! :D

Do you have any further plans regarding development?

Never heard the term "Headless PC". What does that mean?

A headless system is a computer system or device that has been configured to operate without a monitor (the missing "head"), keyboard, and mouse. A headless system is typically controlled via a network connection, although some headless system devices require a connection to be made via RS232 for administration of the device.

This is a great piece of work. It does all I want and need of a music server.
I have an issue with how it advertises on the network. I see at least once a second a broadcast from the Daphile server. I've been told this is how the slaves know it is there. Is there any way to make it broadcast less often? I really don't want all that broadcast traffic on my network.
