Funniest snake oil theories

Technically, that is no worse than Klipsch Heresy which specifies +/-5dB 50-17,000Hz.

That said, iirc the plot I saw at the Klipsch factory in the room they were testing a set of Heresy speakers in 1979 didn't have near the peaks and dips that speaker does. The plot of the speaker under test was displayed on a monitor and the tech testing the speakers had an acetate overlay with the expected response which was taped on the front of the monitor for comparison.

I have an old HFW review of the Heresy somewhere and their test was unexpectedly flat

Step right up ladies and gents, it's time for the Nordost snake oil show! 😛

Ignore the $100,000 😱 turntable (if you want the tone arm it's another $15,000) at the top of the postings and scroll down to the last one.

Notice the photo demonstrates the correct position to assume when you buy the cables. 😀

"What's the cost of this improvement? Don't ask . . . I did ask, and was told that the 4m demo length pair of Valhalla 1 costs $12,200 and Valhalla 2 of the same length is $17,850! "

If only more budding audiophiles would read this and learn before wasting money for years and years on snake oil toys and unnecessary over priced components.

A Brief Guide to Audio for the Skeptical Consumer | Numeral Nine Music and Audio Blog

I found it amusing that the author posted the link on Stereophile's forums saying

"I definitely appreciate any feedback or even criticism"

Some heads probably exploded on there by now 😛

I’ve always maintained that if you can hear a difference, then you should be able to measure it. If you’re not measuring any difference, then you’re not measuring the right thing.
Conversely, if nobody can hear a difference, then measured differences don’t matter. When I owned an audio store, I resisted expensive cables and other snake oil products....

Of course, we went out of business...

That's quite a name - 'FryDaddy'.

That could become a reality for some poor sod if one of these solid core mains cables failed.

If the earth core snapped but not the feed or return, you would not necessarily know about it and the attached equipment's case could become live at mains potential if it developed a fault. Someone should shut him down on safety grounds!

Constellation Audio Performance Centaur Mono monoblock power amplifier Measurements | Stereophile.com

I'll let the reader browse through the rest of the review that came before the measurement section. $54,000 per pair.

One commenter summed up the questionable faults:

"

  1. Poor Signal to Noise for an amplifier of this price and pedigree.
  2. Input impedance way low (way out of specification).
  3. Iffy with loads less that 4 ohms ( specifications say 1000W into 2ohms)
  4. Innards build/wiring quality not up to the price being paid.
  5. Not a big deal, but it concerns me that it has a peaking response in the infra-frequencies.
  6. Probably paying a lot for the glitzy aluminum panels, rather than the meat inside."
It is mentioned that John Curl had a hand in designing the input section.

Okay so this amp has several problems so what does John Atkinson have to say about it at the end of all the testing?

"Constellation Audio's Performance Centaur Mono is a powerhouse of an amplifier capable of delivering very high power with very low distortion into 4 and 8 ohms. While it was less comfortable with 2 ohms, it will have no problem driving low-impedance speakers with aplomb. Although I broke it with sustained delivery exceeding 1kW into 2 ohms (footnote 1), there isn't a speaker made that would not be the first to expire at this power level! Color me impressed."

Always have something great to say about that shoddy product you are testing eh John?🙄
