Does Baybe sell cable elevators, speaker tiptoes, and magic stones in a glass jar? how about felt tipped pens to mark the outside of cd's?
No, but you would really be surprised in what he is interested in when it comes to audio. He has found stuff from other companies that is REALLY AMAZING. I don't dare talk about it here, you couldn't handle it.
IME, once you reach a certain level of quality, and you become sensitised to the areas in the reproduced sound that are relevant to creating a more convincing 'illusion', then everything matters. If you change something, no matter how bizarre it may seem on the surface, then there will a change in the sound. Then, you can go mad chasing each such change, in the hope that it is the 'right' change - and indeed some people seem to spend their whole audio journey doing this very thing ...
So, what is the way out of this "madness"? Personally, I've found that the exercise of making the worst of the worst recordings come together, doing the things that allow them to make musical sense, is a pretty good way - as good a 'solution' as any ... 🙂
This is a roundabout way of responding to John's mentioning of "surprising stuff" - I'm sure all of it has some impact, alters the sound in some way ... but my bottom line would be that they ultimately make the improvements that truly count ...

Brian, there are 2 (two) separate devices called the Bybee purifier. ONE has a resistor located inside a ceramic case, that has a rare earth coating that is somewhat conductive. The other, the one the SY tested uses a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT resistor type that apparently uses an ALTERNATE METHOD of purifying. This is the source of your questioning.
Rare earth coating? Don't they make pn junctions out of Scandium Nitride?
Is that the rare earth coating?
I'd love to see those charts or any other ref to this you might have!
jan
Me too. That kinda stuff is realy cool to me.
Amazing what Google can do for one ... 😉I'd love to see those charts or any other ref to this you might have!

Start with Vertical sound localization - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, and then zip across to ref. 6, http://www.mbfys.ru.nl/~johnvo/papers/nn98.pdf ... lots of juicy pic's in there ...
For the record, I have patiently tried to give you all the info that I have on the Bybee parts, what they are made of, and how they seem to work in my audio system. That is the best that I can do. I have little more to offer at this time on this subject.

Do you actually know how they work?
It sounds like you are repeating what has been told to you. Is there any chance you could have been led down the garden path?
You may or may not hear a change, however is it because of the effects you have been told? or something else.
What is the effect of the ceramic tube? If you don't know that's fine.

M. Gregg

There are no PN junctions in the bybees, however many times you try going down that path. They now use carbon fibre/nano technology, because these are current buzz words for new electronic component development.
I have noticed a big change in the marketing blurb on the Bybee site since the last big discussion, the military secret and superconducting play less of a role in the new stuff???
What we have here is as people have stated a fraud, but looking around High end audiophile add on devices and it is no more or less a fraud than the majority of the stuff. Mostly designed by either moonlighting rocket scientists or eccentric geniuses who labour away in dark backrooms developing products (that would need NASAs R&D budget in the real world) that work at a quantum level, in ways us mere mortals would never understand. I despair at this, for numerous reasons; I don't like being lied to, and more importantly all this hand waving detracts from the real engineering and acoustical issues that can lead to far superior sound reproduction. of course engineering takes dedication, education and perspiration to achieve results.
From the current Bybee site...
The new Bybee Slipstream Golden Goddess products are the culmination of decades of research and development by Jack Bybee. Over the past couple of years, the new-millennium Slipstream purifier based on carbon fiber and nanotechnology has taken the elimination of quantum mechanical noise to unprecedented levels. Eichmann RCA plugs, banana plugs and 5-way binding posts, and ERS “Stealth” carbon fiber damping and shielding material, ensure sonically superior connectivity. A new, ultra-flexible expanded Teflon (ePTFE) functions essentially as an air dielectric for the conductors, virtually eliminating capacitance. Those elements combined to make the sonics of the original Bybee Slipstream accessories and cables dramatically open, spacious and tonally pure
I have little more to offer at this time on this subject.
Since this thread is about Measurements and Double Blind Tests, come back when you have either.
They claim to be selling it to him, so yes, they're part of the fraud. Looks like a standard EMI cloth (e.g., Zippertubing, Ferrishield) repackaged for audiophile sucker sale.

Que?
I was going to ask JC how much cut he was getting for flogging this nonsense but thought it may been seen as offensive. Now, it seems clear that he is, indeed, in on the scam, and up to his ears in it.And from the Bybee "About" web page:

This thread reminds me of an old movie, "One Cuckoo Flew Over the Rest".
Of course, if conventional measurements always tell a particular listener everything he needs to know about whether the sound will be satisfactory or not, then he need not concern himself with other, 'foolish' matters ... 🙂

It does certainly look that way.
Not that one needed much else but JCs constant wriggling around and moving of goal posts in this thread alone to be highly suspicious of his true motives.

Engineering a music replay system relies on measurements as well as listening. Without measurements you only have 'hear say' to guide you, measurements provide the metric to base engineering decisions on, though I know some like to promote the esoteric and mystique of creating a system by ears alone, even for digital interfaces.
Of course look at what can be achieved in electronics and physics with conventional measurements.
