If nothing else, I am going to have options. Just secured 4 altec 414A's.
As for the 515's, I seem to find all the crazy people selling sh^%. I have contacted two people about 515's. Both were gung ho, but now i cannot get either to respond. It has been a crazy week.

what Altec........
Looks like a DIY [6] vent variant of the 816VIX.

Get some 515s from GPA. Less dealing with nonsense, and a guarantee to boot.
Deon
+1 if it must be AlNiCo.

Here is the final shakedown. I will get 4 414A's. I will also either get the 515b or 515C from GPA. I will start wit the 414's. I will pit them against a 515. Then decisions will be made. I guess i should get a 416 as well to make it fair. THis is gonna be fun!
Blimey thats one hell of a set of headphones!!!
Whats the final product 4x bass + 2x Iwata? = Giant D'apolito?

GM,
What you think about a dual 414 enclosure? Should I do .5 way and use sewcond driver to compensate for baffle step, or parallel them and use EQ to bring them up, gaining efficiency?

I have considerd this configuration, but I am not real sure how it would work in room.

I do like the idea. On that one though I'd move the drivers toward the horn.
dual 15's would be a hoot. 12's would work well too I guess
glad your 'big' design is moving ahead full steam!!

Problem with MTM is XO. From what little I have read, It forces your hand on what kind of XO you can use. I am going to be driving these things with High Z amps, trying to macth impedances. Something along the lines of the F! or 2 and also variations of J2 and F6. All these can be setup to operate as low DF amps. Dunno. we will see. Gotta get the wife on board with the design first.

noticed this one yesterday
I like the classic design
apparently its with 8" coax
could be a CD/horn instead
the low mounted woofer could be a problem if you want it to play midrange
but a simple low stand-mount would be easy cure
btw, due to the small coax this one would probably be ok in the MTM you wanted 😀

looks like someone either copied or ruined an Altec 19
btw they've only used 4 of the 8 screw holes to mount the bass driver
