Do you use sensing tranformer or resistor?
Do you use di/dt limiting inductor or not?
Have you tested this protection with short on output and then feeding high frequency sinusoidal signal?

they will certainly be hot as a soldering gun, but if you have no option, use a hack saw to cut 1mm gap which will atleast help.
the best thing is to use the EE or the EI core from that PC
