It is genius.........

yes and no

possibilities are almost endless

but - as you need to bias them equally , to have 0 offset , enhancd or depletion mode is irrelevant . both are opening with same sign of voltage change

xconductance is what counts , same as sort and amount of modulation of each half , accordingly

go and make your iteration ........ :clown:

you are waxing philosophical...but your point is well taken

Seriously thought...is this expected to be a project that is the "next step"? You know...worthy successor and all that?

I caught an interview with Nelson Pass. He is a very bright guy. I know of people selling their Macs so they can buy Pass amps...so he definitely has his stuff together.

I have often wondered how he balanced his support for DIY (which I appreciate) with his need to sell amps but I think he has discovered that you get as much as you give. A secret I wish everyone knew.

Build any and you will be happy. You will not know which is best till you hear them all. I have only heard 5. Everyone is different.

This amp will probably cost a bit more than the F5 with the transformers, outputs, different power supply.

The transformers might be the same as for an F5. With the F6 the SemiSouth FETs are a lot more expensive than Fairchild or IR MOSFETS. The transformers are probably also expensive. Could be that the F6 will be 1.5-2 times the cost of a F5 for a frugal DIYer.

you'll certainly can make it with IRFP's , with somewhat lesser verity ;

do not forget that , if you choose to ,you are going to make something which Pa is selling for 3-4K

The F5 is a good project to start on if you haven't built anything before. The Semisouth outputs will get expensive if you start blowing things up.

I do plan to finish my F5 one day before I start a new project like this...uhh...I think...well...maybe...not...uhh...I'll be right back. I'm gonna out my F5 parts in the market place.

so Zen Mod...you are "preaching to the choir".

That is an "Americanism". I see you are flying the Serbian flag so I wonder, but hope, you get the metaphor

Build the F5. Excellent all around amp from top to bottom. Least colored and most honest and accurate amp I have heard of the Pass amps. The others have flavors. I really like the BA3 driven by 6v6 tube preamp. With this setup, I have no feedback in the amplification chain. I am a fan of no feedback designs for some reason. Source is either Marantz DV8400 or custom made audio PC runnning J River in Wasapi. Dac is either Peter Daniels NOS TDA1543 or CS3496...I think, with transformer loaded output. Speakers are Alpair 7.3 crossed to Peerless woofer down low to free up the FR to do its things without having to worry about excursion. If you have all this same stuff, then my opinion is important, otherwise it is a crap-shoot. Oh yeah, I built all the amps, so you have to deduct some quality for that.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

wow .. fabulous appetizer while we await the main course - nicely done and phenomenal results !

Would love to hear how any breadboarded results go - I have a nice start but my setup seems to oscillate now at the drop of a hat - fried two more latfets :( ... no clue why because the same setup with complementary outputs was very well behaved....

I plead ignorance. In the schematic by Nelson, the bottom secondary is flipped, but isnt this just misdirection. Both fets are receiving the same signal, assuming no influence from bias arrangement or feedback. I know its been discussed, but I have been reading up on Jensen site as well as other possible transformer splitter topologies and wanted to make sure i wasnt starting from the wrong end of track.

P3 anyone?

How about nulling 2nd harmonic this way?
