You've got the hornresp posted -- go find whatever driver you want to put in it, and see how it fares.

It was designed for a 3015lf.

im good with a skillsaw,

but computer software/math no so 🙁

i have no idea what to do with the posted hornresp ?

no idea if its a 10, 12, 15 or 18" driver?

or how the ts parameters of any driver would indicate if it would work in that TH or not..?

yea its DIY, but i diy with my hands not my head 😀

If you want a sub that works with a variety of different speakers, and has an actual measured corner frequency of 35 Hz (or lower with a reduced mouth size)

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/subwoofers/185588-keystone-sub-using-18-15-12-inch-speakers.html

The Keystone design could be made a bit wider and use two 15” speakers and still occupy less volume than your size specification.

It is smaller and goes lower than Jim’s (jbell) stadium horn, and is easier to build.

The Keystone would probably even work with your thrift store speakers, but usually thrift store speakers have wimpy magnets that make for a peaky one note bass response.
Tapped horns work well with strong magnets (high Bl) stiff cones, and lots of Xmax.

Get a dB meter, a VOM (volt/ohm/meter), down load some test tones so you can actually start comparing the speaker output of what your hands build.

And take Jim’s advice and learn Hornresp 🙂.

too much equipment and measuring devices and thinking and calcs and room for error for me to want to do it *the right way*....

im happy to take advice/guidance from experienced people who have tried and tested things.

if 300 people say x box with y driver works well, and its what i want,

i'll build it.

sorry, you're going to have to do some homework first.

Quick n dirty Karlson sub video 🙂

YouTube - ‪MAH00016‬‏

sony bloggie mic got a little overloaded unfortunately 🙁

Karlson sub gets much louder then i thought it would, my little power supply started struggling before i could get the drivers to over excurt 😀

sound is good, a little boomy/harsh perhaps?

bass seems as present behind the box as in front (maybe a little less boomy/harsh ?)

adding or removing the foam to restrict 90% of the vent seems to make very little difference?

a fun project 🙂

im open to things to try if you have an idea and it doesnt involve tooooo much effort....

Then you belong in best buy, not DIY.

Best. Quote. Evar.

Seriously, if you're looking for an easy-button tried and true, proven single cabinet horn sub solution, Jim's Stadium Horn is great.

I have another DIY option (33 Hz corner, loaded with a $90 15") that is a bit smaller, but it does not get as loud, and it is a far more complicated build. It is also far less refined and tested. As far as I know, there are only two out there in the wild.

No offense 60ndown... but math is music, and music is math.
To appreciate one, you really need to appreciate the other. The reason I am so passionate about music, is it teaches you so much about life that you can't really get any other way.

Einstein said "If you want to know truth, look for beauty." Music is beautiful, and so is math, and it's really so simple.

Anyone who is cavalier about music almost offends me... because I take such great joy in it. The same is true of math. So when you say you don't want to even know about the math, but just hack at it, well it reminds me of a 2 year old banging on keys on a piano. There is math to a piano, and an order to things, and when you don't care to learn the order, well -- beauty is likely out of your reach.

This is my appeal to you to take the time, learn just at least a bit of the how/why, and then add that to your 'do.' You'll be the better for it, and maybe, just maybe... you'll do something beautiful.

no offense,

but im guessing you built your car?,

because if you dont understand how it works, you really should be using a scooter.

Things to Consider

For all cabinets to date I had the parts cuts by the timber shop. My only cut was the circle for the driver.

The BFM cabinets took me a long while to build, I don't know how long.
I built two Stadium Horns from scratch in a couple of hours. The 3/4 inch wood makes them easier to construct than the BFM designs, but considerably heavier.

I had a pair of Tuba 36. I could lift a 30 inch T36 over my head if necessary. I certainly can't lift the Stadium horn. However, the Stadium Horn is so solid I regularly have people dancing on it, and I can easily manoeuvre it on its wheels - blue wheels cost me 6 Euro a piece.

What do you want?
Light - BFM or the SS15
or
Extra strong cabinet - Stadium Horn

Small - the smaller BFM or the SS15
or
Single cabinet capability - Stadium Horn

Lower response as you stack more cabinets - BFM and similar
or
Flat response - the JBELL designs

Regards, Ben
