Finally, an affordable CD Transport: the Shigaclone story

Hi syklab, the connection does not replace C906, but is attached to it. I'll try to remove C906 and see if that brings further benefit.

NO. The "TO VREF" reg connects to the positive leg and the "FROM VREF" connects to the positive leg. The reg is based on a feedback loop.

Type of cap-JohnW gives specific guidance on the caps required-he suggests a low imedance cap on the output of the reg and a good quality decoupling cap close to the load (probably a ceramic).

One last thing: Make sure that the reg Vout is as close in value to the voltage on C906. I used an LM317 with a potentiometer to set it at 2.522V

Funny thing Audiohifi:
I built a pretty little dual supply, sourced a 25VA transformer, set-up everything neatly in the Shiga.

This took some time, money, effort. Out of curiosity, I ran the circuit as JOHNW presented it (i.e. no power supply). To my surprise, the output was holding at 2.5V.... so the short answer is there is no need for a powersupply to run the NE5534 off +-5V!!

Of course you must supply the 2.5V input as per the schematic.

Perhaps one of our electronics guru's can explain why the op-amp needs no supply in this situation....

Hi Dr H,
So this is it ? Yep I learn every day,Thanks for your help!
Thanks

NOT to the 9242 chip!

The reg VREF goes to the 6541 chip or to the C906 cap.

Also note that the feedback from the 2.5 pt being supplied should be taken from the same pt. This means that the output of the opamp (pin 6) is connected to the pos leg of C906. The same leg is connected to the - input of the op-amp.

Please check and repost the correct schematic; a dead shigaclone cannot be brought to life. Be careful.

A very sad coincidence together with a huge Mini-PiTbull improvement came along.

I just finished my ebony encasement and was really thrilled by the effect while on the other hand I came to know that one of my sound guru's and master on this particular subject died at the age of 58 (in his sleep) a few days ago.

Bernard Salabert I will always remember you through my music...R.I.P.

This is a very sad story - I searched the net and read about him after reading this thread.
Clearly a major pioneering talent has left the planet - his published information makes for very interesting reading and so...I guess he lives on.
His listening room is just astonishing - hope everyone can take a look - well worth the effort.
This guy was clearly very serious - quite beyond anything I've read before.
I'm already thinking about my hobby in a different way - such is the effect of checking this man out - it's a ' must read '

Enlightened

Errrm what exactly is an Audiophile transformer?

Errrm what exactly is an Audiophile transformer?
Probably the same as a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.
They do look very pretty though. but at ten times the price I don't think
they deliver the bang for the bucks.
I'm sure I could write an ebook about this **** but I'm not going to go into it here.
A transformer is a transformer and what you do with the output is all dependent on your rectification and filtering topology.
I have suffered HiFi Mag readers for the past thirty years that know all the buzz words and all the specs of all the crap under the sun But when it comes down to the nitty gritty Good layout and topology rules
Sorry guys its just my two cents.

This was obviously one hardcore dude
I will have a good read of that tomorrow when I'm sober.
He may have left the planet but his energy is still here and active.
energy doesn't simply vanish it gets transfered .
Remember E=MC2 :drink:

Syklab, are you sure you're looking at the correct circuit? Have a look at one of my posts about 6 weeks ago- I mentioned the different IC's involved. You have the RCEZ31 schematic?

Hi Dr.H,

There seems to be a typo in the RCEZ31 document. There are 2 C906, one with 330P and the other one is 0.1U. So the the From Vref and To Vref should connect to the C906;s positive leg which is connected directly to the pin 10 (TH) of the IC901 LA9242M. Is it correct?
