Tinitus, I have never seen the foil paper in Canadian supermarkets.

Thats the plague of my fine little country
Intelligence is without concerns used to earn money
Because we are small, "they" have the saying
Culture plays a weak part, and almost gone
We are doomed to be a plastic society
Its unbelieveable what they do to make money
Lately it seems to be very common to repack meat with new false last sale dates, not once but several times, with the same meat
Well, its our own task to find whats left of quality and value
Most cant manage that, or cant afford any other way, so its a one way street
But I will fight it till the end

Pure kitchen foil have been used fore DIY planars around her fore a long time
Or should I say it stopped being used a long time ago
Its simply too "heavy", noisy, and results in low impedance
The use of paper backed foil is really a neat trick
Its probably very low quality foil of the worst kind, but it really does works
Im perfectly capeable of evaluating sound 100% objectively, and this material really is capeable to be used in exstremely good sounding designs
Better alternatives seems hard to handle, and only an option fore advanced commercial use, and have been fore years
But ofcourse it would be nice if someone found a way to handle it in easy DIY manner
So far, to me the paper backed food wrapping "foil" seems like the only option

Im not sure whether it will work as interconnects, but who knows:scratch2::rofl:

Arend-Jan you asked how i make curved panels.
I use 4 mm thick wood made of 3-4 layers,i think its called fiberbord.I glue 2-3 pcs.of 4 mm, to get 8 or 12mm. total.

I use white wood glue.I hope you can see from the pictures how its done.

Thanks Tinitus for explaining about the alu/paper.
The paper is to be removed as the foil is in place.I am planning to try Mylar and glue alu/paper on and then remove the paper .Its easily removed with window cleaner fluid.

I have spent the afternoon searching the internet for the foil without success. I searched aluminum foil paper first and the closest thing I found was from a Chinese manufacturer listed at alibaba.com. The description sounded good but the minimum quantity I could order would fill an entire ship container. I searched the Kvickly xtra website but did not see any type of online catalogue which might give me a brand name. It might be there somewhere but since I only speak English I may have missed it. I concluded by searching aluminum foils but this took me in a completely wrong direction. I'm going to stop now and give this a little more thought before resuming the search.

Yes I really mean it.:)
not ironical at all.
I like this stuff and admire this diy works.

Yeah, diy rules
Sometimes we do what would usually need million dollar budgets

This one started many years ago when a danish guy read the Apogee patent and thought, I can do that too:idea:
But it has since then been through the hands of many other creative minds
Much more than any company will ever manage
Maybe thats the real trick of DIY:rolleyes:

I used Google translator to translate the entire thread. It was not a perfect translation but I think I understand most of it.I really admire your metal working skills and ingenuity. I want to reread the Danish thread again and then would like to ask you some questions. You mention that you removed the paper backing from the foil and laminated it to mylar in the later designs. If this is correct then I could obtain thin foil from a capacitor and wouldn't have to find a source of alufolie sandwich paper.

Some of the later "hardcore fanatics" who used foil from caps, or other advanced foil, actually glued it on to......japanese paper :usd:

Glue is heavy, and might present a problem of its own

Some of the problems båndsei have with the stiffer paper backed foil might relate in paticular to his own design, the curved diaphragm
Båndsei loves it, I know that
And it may be important to his design and sound
But the curving itself makes a much stiffer diaphragm, and thus holds a number of complications I dont like
I like the sound tho:)

With a purely flat diaphragm I dont think the paper backing present any problems, on the contrary
The needed tape is a bigger problem

Brilliant!

I love your work.

Thanks.
I have recently discovered that i have used a wrong graf at FEMM. to read magnetflux.
So now the alufoil should be placed in betvine the magnets instead of in front of them
my.php

Here a picture with transparent foil, maybe you call it "vita wrap" it´s a household product.

båndsei,

I am very enamoured of your work, very professional, and clean.

I have translated your danish thread, and read all pages. I wish to pursue similar style of loudspeaker.

Have you looked at this:"The tall neodymium ribbon". Part 1

He uses mylar membrane, and suspends it between the magnets, I was curious to see if you had done anything similar, and what you thought.

I would love to see more details of how you mount your ribbons.

Thanks,
John
