It's not really on my table right now. 😉
I know, I know, it is a diner time, but after you finish diner and clean up dishes, than you could put boards on the table...

Thanx, I really enjoy doing it and playing with various circuits. Canno't wait for Cviler to finish BA boards. I have a feeling that BA 1 and 2 are going to be really great amps.
I wish I had so much time to play with all the variations.
A wishfull thinking!😡
Life is to short
Succes,
Johan
Cascode Option for BA boards
Hi Cviller,
Here is a request for the Cascode option for the BA board.
Thanks,

It has been a while since last I looked at the schematics, but after refreshing my memory it kinda makes less sense to spend too much effort on doing a cascoded version. Having previously played around with the diff pair on the aleph j, I would say that we would probably not hit the sweet spot or even the DC stable spot in our first attempt, if we decide to cascode the input, and it is not as simple as with the F5 - it can be done, but the design will be approaching an opamp.
Furthermore, the whole idea behind the Burning Amps is that we get some really nice general purpose output stages to play around with, and this frontend is just the beginning - but what a beginning! 😎

Ok no worries
For those that would like to try a higher powered version (eg +/- 40V rails) of the BA2, would we be best off using irf9610 (like on Aleph 30) or would we be best served by using bipolars like 2sa970 at the input?

Nelson said to Cascode the differential pair, so I’m staying with the 2sj109 and will fix the voltage on the cascode devise at ~15V for 40v rails, I guess we can cut traces on the board to make it fit. This is a hobby🙂

Cut two traces, add 2 pnp bipolars and a resistive reference
consisting of 2 5K resistors between v- and ground, and voila!
😎
Thanks for pitching in on our diversion! BTW: We're close to getting ready to order the boards. 😀
Do you think it is worth it to expand the boards slightly to accommodate this cascode option?

ya nutz?
ya know already what's meaning and result of democracy in DIY ?
never ending thread/project ........

just make it .... and let them bleed..... oups - complain ;
because - always someone will complain ; if nobody else - me & Metaldanske & Jaccovitty

I have to agree, if we debate every possible mod in the first rev we're never gonna get a consensus. Sometimes you just have to cut the cord, or the trace. Plus it'll force us modifiers to learn if it's not handed to us on a silver platter 😉
I might have a slight bias: my BA-2 chassis has been collecting dust for over a year waiting for the stars to align... one day it will make beautiful music 🙂
Design finalized, Sent for pricing, order imminent in the next few days. We priced a decent number. Will put up a list v soon.. Those that already showed interest will of course be placed on the list.
