Dual mono Dac (separated box dac,pre-amp-power amp sitting near the speakers) was interested to try ,but to much times&budgets.
I still prefer the modded technique,better&over kill power supply good lay out and wiring material and good AC power system,the SQ of stereo dac still OK for my taste.
It can change for the sample rate and the type of regulator. I measure 155mA before any modification @44.1khz. If no modification, always under 200mA.

On another note, has anyone using the DIYINHK board noticed a hissing sound in the background every now and then?
