Marantz CD63 & CD67 mods list

Sherwood AX-4050R mods

Well it's a cheap amp and had lots of poor quality parts inside, so I did some part swaps with bits I have lying around:

* main psu caps 4700uF Samwha --> 10,000uF Elna For Audio
* pre op-amp KIA 4559 --> BB OPA2134 with 1uF across V+-
* Pana Fc on op-amp
* Pana Fc after reg
* 220 / 25V Samwha before reg and - rail (no reg on - rail!) --> Nichicon 2200u / 35V
* PSU resistors on +-15V 100R --> 10R each
* DC blocking caps (tiny polar elcos!) before op-amp shorted
* CD input RCAs replaced for quality ones (they were going faulty)
* 1uF cap on 15V feeding input switching IC --> Pana Fc

I'll hear his impressions later...

Looking very good indeed.

What is powering your DAC analog +5v ?

Ricardo

Blimy guys, I go off to do some proper work for a day and the forum goes mad!!!!!! :eek:

Ricardo - the 5v analogue DAC is powered by seperate TX winding into a PSU 10,000uf mudorf and an SReg.

I've still got a use for several more Sregs me thinks but thats not till next month!

(Am I allowed to join in the michael extraction yet?)
Simon, do you usually blow things up then or use a wreking ball for your demolition!!!

Philips CD650 featuring the famous TDA1541A DAC chip. I dropped a 5V super reg on the DAC before the pub, and it's really opened up. Still a lot more shut-in than my CD63KI was at its peak, however... but more "correct" sounding in timbre and dynamics.

Simon

Does it have any other mods? Do you think there is potential with more work on PSU's clock decoupling etc??

I've read lots of very positive stuff about that DAC.

here's the missing "c" lol :xeye:
