I am not sure,but I believe that bd140 works in ON/OFF regime (fully opened or fully closed) as a switch,so it doesn't need heatsink. without heatsink pcb could be a bit smaller. at least one cm wich is pretty much in this case... nicely done, by the way!

Yes it is PWM speed regulator like in cordless drils.

thanks!. Without putting too much efforts, here is heatsink removed. I was able to shave off 5mm on one side and 3 mm on the other.

its a bit complicated....
the number probably represents the total number of transistors in a single channel of amp.
The prefix A represents amp that contains an opamp ,
AX represents a pure bjt design.

My guess is like 'A' series stands for CFA amp (A- Current/Ampere), and 'AX' stands for VFA amp models. As Prasi commented, when I counted the number of transistors in A40 and A33, it is 40 and 33 respectievely. I might be wrong

I have somehow builted and tested some of the Apex amplifiers wow nice awesome sound superb and i might be wrong or right for choosing apex A14 as thought of good sound quality may be there might be a very good and appropriate amplifiers for me if someone in this diy forum senior or experts help me to find out but anyway thanks to have such APEX AMPLIFIERS
