Hey Fab -

I went the other way with my enclosure and decided to go bigger (16 x 12 x 4) from the get go, since I wasn't quite sure of what my final design would include. I'm still not sure whether or not I'll include a preamp - maybe even a DAC board and another tranny. But, I'll have the space if if I need it. :)

My chip-amp is using the LM4702 which is class AB. So, needless to say, it includes a fairly good size heatsink attached to it. I was thinking I would just install the amp/HS vertical in my enclosure (as suggested by bcmbob) since it is well vented. Now I'm thinking I may try and hang the HS out the back of the enclosure, but that will involve a lot more case mods than I may want to put up with. We'll see. My enclosure is coming from NJ (Par-Metal), while I'm still waiting for more parts from China. :( I've had real good luck dealing with an eBay vendor over there, who's been working with me when I'm not sure exactly what I need. However, since they're 13 hours ahead of NY, I have to stay up till midnight just to communicate! :)

Shown below is my current thinking for the internal layout, but that may all change once the case shows up and I can see how much trouble it'll be to hang the HS outside the case for a better cooling. I can't wait to get started on the construction. It's all fun!

Hey buddy, I live in New York too (Queens, Manhattan area)! if you need extra help with your amp, just let me know. I will be more than happy to help.

Hey lanchile - Thanks for the friendly offer. We don't make it down to the city much, hardly ever, unless we have a specific mission. My son and I have been known to take a road trip or two in search of vintage gear. We've been down to Jersey and over to CT and NH a couple of times. Maybe we could fit a trip in down to Queens too sometime.

I'll keep the group posted on my progress, once it starts in earnest. I'm between job assignments now and have the extra time. Just waiting on key parts now. I'm tired of waiting. :( I'm following fab's project too.

Now who am I gonna follow?!:D

I feel your pain on waiting for parts.... I'm in the process of fabricating my own bend brake, building a stand/rack for this project and mocking up a set of towers, all while my wife is due to give birth to my boy on the 30th!

My hands are never idle:cool:

fab - Did you change your design somewhere along the line and decide to add 2 more channels? Post #1 shows 2 completed channels. :scratch2: Just wondering what the additional boards are for. It's highly possible I missed a post or two along the way somewhere. :)

Do you mind me asking what eBay seller you purchased these board/kits from? Don't know if mentioning names is against forum rules. :(

Yeah this whole build started kinda modest with just a simple set of 2-way bookshelf speakers to possibly a set of stentorians :no:

I don't mind posting the sellers name if it's ok.... both kits were from different people selling the same brand

Yeah, I'm beginning to see how these simple projects start to grow and expand and take on a new life form. It's called scope-creep in my business. ;) I haven't even physically started mine yet, and want to throw more in my big box! Sometimes the KISS method is hard to stick to. :)

I found that this hobby helps me relax more than some of my others, and challenges me in many new ways. The good thing is I have a most of the tools I would need to build almost anything. Now I just need a much bigger house to be able to fit all of the ideas I have brewing!

My wife doesn't call me a pack rat anymore.... I'm a pack mule! I'm usually pretty good at utilizing the KISS method but, not on this build.

All joking aside does anyone see any improve improvements that should be made on these boards? I could've sworn I seen someone, somewhere, put bigger output capacitors on these boards and laid them down, just don't know the value.

Is 4.7uf the set value to put on the inputs?
